  6. New Read - Shuna's Journey

Shuna's Journey is a 1983 manga written by Hayao Miyazaki inspired by the Tibetan folktale "The Prince Who Turned into a Dog." This story follows a prince who is looking for grain to save his people and the hardships he faces along the way.

It's well done. Miyazaki writes the entire story out while simultaneously presenting the gorgeous artwork with aesthetics inspired by traditional Tibetan imagery.

    It's a great take on a folktale.

Also, interestingly, the original Japanese release date is two weeks before my literal birth date. So, that's fun.

  11. NEVER ENDING MAN

In the 2020s, when AI-generated content became more widely accessible, this clip sparked discussion about the "spirit" and ethics of using artificial intelligence in media. The clip once again went viral during March 2025 when images generated in the style of Ghibli films were created using GPT-4o's text-to-image tool.

  14. Kto tęsknił za moimi ścianami tekstu? Od wczoraj na blogu wisi długaśna (ponad 2000 słów 😅) recenzja najnowszego filmu Miyazakiego Hayao, czyli „Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka?” (aka „Chłopiec i czapla”).
Czytajcie. A jutro biegnijcie do kin!

  15. CW: At the end of Porco Rosso, we are not told if Marco ever came back to see Gina.

Last night, for a split second, I finally saw the red plane docked at the far side of the island, next to her garden, hinting that he did indeed come back for her.

  17. [EN] I’ve been in Japan for a week and a half now and, last Sunday, I went to see Miyazaki Hayao’s latest film, “Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka?” (“The Boy and the Heron”, lit. “How do you live?”). I always say I am more of a Takahata Isao person but, of course, I enjoy Miyazaki’s films too. I especially like his impressive imagination and the unique themes he uses in his works. In “Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka?” he takes some inspiration from his own childhood experiences. These slice of life elements of the story are really moving. Naturally, there’s also a fantasy side to it: with an enormous parallel world of wonders, where the main character, Mahito, must grow up and make an important choice.
“Kimitachi wa dōikiru ka?” is a story about acceptance and coming to terms with loss. It’s also a tale about how we live our lives and how our individual choices shape the whole world — as the original Japanese title, taken from the book by Yoshino Genzaburō, suggests.
If I were to compare this film with another one by Miyazaki, I would probably choose “Spirited Away”. This one, however, is bolder, more mature and more personal. You should all see it when it gets released in your countries.

    Bambi Theater 1, Row 1 Seat 6

When I mentioned “many anime out there I’m very passionate about” in my recent AKIRA post, Mononoke Hime was certainly among those I had in mind.

I know it so well but still—or because of it—I have to cry most of the time, right from the start. “Transience/impermanence” is certainly a major motif, from the (implied) fate of the Emishi to Ashtaka & Yakkuru saying goodbye to their […|

  20. Today the very last film of #MiyazakiHayao, How Do You Live?, premieres in cinemas in Japan. Apart from a poster nothing about the film has been revealed yet. I'm a big fan of Miyazaki's works and can't wait for its release outside #Japan. #Ghibli
