New Read - Animal Crossing: New Horizons Deserted Island Diary, Volume 11
As it always is, this manga is extremely silly and extremely fun.
For those who never have seen the ACNH Deserted Island Diary manga, think of it as follows: it's a low stakes sitcom style gag manga where each chapter is self-contained story set on the creator's Animal Crossing island where silliness ensues.
This volume included a fishing tournament and Turkey Day celebrations.
All around silly and fun for all ages.

Hime admits her feelings to Akira. Akira does not reciprocate. Also, in volume 4, we also see Akira admit that she played up having a crush on the one boy because she felt she needed to have said crush in order to feel more like a girl. That was her own internalized issues she had about gender, sexuality, etc.
The ending has Hime and Akira friends. Hime, ultimately, gets married to Hiro and Akira, we don't know how she ends up. In the big flash forward, as far as we know she's single, but it's not made explicit. However, she is the godmother of Hime and Hiro's child, which is a cute moment.
I don't know how to feel about the final ending, but overall I did enjoy the series and it handled LGBTQ+ topics well.

Wow. Finished I Wanna Be Your Girl this past weekend. It ended well, but I have feelings and thoughts.
First, for those who don't know, the basic premise begins as the story of longtime friends Hime and Akira. Akira came out to her best friend Hime as trans and decided in high school to live outwardly as a trans-girl. This follows the two of them in high school and how Hime handles realizing that she has a crush on Akira. That's where it starts.
The final volume deals with some aftermath of Volume 3, it deals with Hime finally grappling with her feelings and saying these things out loud, it deals with Akira really becoming more comfortable in herself, and does two sets of flash forwards that I think are well done overall. The first flash forward is to the group of friends graduating, the second is well into adulthood as they all come together for Yukka's marriage to her girlfriend.

Beach Manga Read - Donald Duck Visits Japan
I bring this on vacation every year for like the past 5 years and read it on the beach. It's one of my regular beach reads.
The story - Donald and his friends work for Duck Furniture. They want to branch out to Japan, so they send the trio to work at a hot springs resort with very traditional and strict management. And silliness ensues.
It's silly, it's self-contained, it's funny, and it's very easy for me to pick up and put down while chilling on the beach with my kids.
Easy annual read.

New Manga Read - The Bride Was a Boy
The Bride was a Boy is an autobiographical manga written by Chii, a trans artist and writer. This single volume originated as a blog, but with her husband's support she made it into a book.
The story is hers, about her life and experiences as a trans woman in Japan. Between chapters, she talks about LGBTQ+ rights and laws in Japan to help explain what she went through.
It was a very interesting read and a cute one, as she also talks about her love story with her husband.
Cute and informative. Glad I read it.

New Manga Read - Otaku Elf, Volume 11
Volume 11 of this series continues to be low stakes and chill. This volume, Elda and her Miko visit Osaka for a festival ran by her fellow elf Yorde. It's a fire based festival and it rains, so they work together to make due.
Again, it's low stakes, slice of life of an elf being treated like a goddess who is a massive introvert. It's fun, silly, and a quick read.
Also, Elda saying she people'd too much cause she's such an introvert? I get it.

Have you ever read / watched Chi's Sweet Home or Chi's Sweet Adventure? If not, let me give you the rundown.
Chi is an adorable little kitten who lives with a small family of a Mom, Dad, and son. The kitten gets into trouble doing kitten stuff and running around out in the neighborhood.
It's an all ages series, but largely for kids.
This series is a single volume series where Chi's family moves to Paris. Basically, more cute stories about a kitty getting in to silly situations, set in France.
Very cute. Glad I got it.

Haikyuu is one of my favorite manga series. It's an amazing sports story about high school volleyball players with an incredible time skip ending arc.
However, I'm a Dad with four kids and I can't afford the cost or space to buy all 45 volumes.
About 2 years ago, after seeing a friend get it, I picked up a copy of the Japanese language art book for Haikyuu. It's gorgeous and includes some incredible art from the manga, silly poses of our cast, and a wide assortment of full color pictures.
This gives me a nice taste of one of my favorite series' art
