Yesterday I went to the cinema to watch Princess Mononoke, which I'd seen only 5 years ago, so it's been kind of a new first time.

First of all it's been exciting to see the animation with the eyes of a wannabe comic artist, noticing many technical things and thinking oh yea I have to find it online make some screens and study it. When I start to see that that something's techniques are in my reach, I get absorbed by it and feel quite empowered.

Secondarily, the thing I appreciate of Miyazaki (born '41 and fellow Capricorn ofc) is that, like Tomino (born '41, Scorpio), belongs to the generation grew during the war and the reconstruction who brings the true message of war: that's stupid and destructive for everyone and that just picking a side is not the way to solve humanity's problem with it.

Watching Mononoke as a Gundam fan means seeing what Ashitaka, in this case, represents, as the third way that's not the obliteration of one side, the tragedy of having to give up on hate as it pollutes you and the ones around you. It's terrifying and unjust, but to achieve true peace everyone must lose something and our job is to ensure that what we lose is the worst of us, possibly hate itself.

In this sense, it's nice to put it with Gundam bc the latter is far less forgiving, the protagonists are the third way but the two sides are not that quick to understand and they often perish bringing with them the innocents/pseudo-innocents and all the ppl coerced in their crusade.
The adults learn the hard way by witnessing children that take on the world's burdens and its pain and cruelty, ultimately losing so much but their will to not succumb to this system. #anime #miyazaki #mononoke #gundam
