I went stalking the Miyazaki movie Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind on IMDB to confirm who gave the English dub voice to Lord Yupa (it was Patrick Stewart in 2003). But wow, drama over the original 1985 English dub!
Harvey fucking Weinstein cut 25 minutes from the movie, purposefully mistranslated some dialogue, changed character names (e.g. Nausicaä became Zandra!), and pushed Nausicaä into the background. What an arsehole.
Studio producer Toshio Suzuki sent a katana sword to Weinstein's office with "NO CUTS" on the blade. I mean, I joke about sending an axe as a message to problem clients, this legend stepped that up!
Nobody did that to Miyazaki's movies again; Disney was given distribution rights with instructions not to cut and they honoured that deal.
