After 30+ years, I just discovered a new secret in the retro SNES game Lufia.

It turns out that if you use cheat code and level up till some unbelievable level, the final boss will actually flee from you 🤣

I'm guessing that the game developers added in the code to flee for the weaker enemies, but I just didn't think that they would add it for the final boss fight 😂

I was already looking forward to beat the final boss easily, but this was too easy 😝

Lufia and Lufia 2 should be on NSO. Lufia 2, It's one of those games that has stuck with me through the years, gives me the same feelings Final Fantasy IV (2 then here) does....I hadn't known video games could have a story like that.

A cut above many of it's contemporaries in that regard!

This game is a special series in my collection. Lufia & the Fortress of Doom.

Shame this series has not continued on into modern consoles. Maybe we need some re-releases.

@qlp As bad of a rep as #MysticQuest has, I loved it as a kid. It was one of the games (along with #Lufia and #SuperMarioRPG) that got me into RPGs in the first place.

(Also, if you ever want to play the #Lufia series, be sure to play Lufia 2 before Lufia 1 first! Lufia 2 is a prequel, and Lufia 1 starts with a major spoiler for the ending of Lufia 2... I'm really glad that what was released as just "Lufia" in the Netherlands during my youth was actually a localised version of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals, and so it was the first one of the series that I played.)
(I was also glad that I realised it before buying Lufia 2, or else I might've bought a duplicate when I was expecting a sequel. xD Though I would still like to have the US and JP release in my #SNESGames collection some day...)

Watched a #speedrun of #Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals for the #SNES in the Iris% category, where they have to collect all the Iris Treasures from the Ancient Cave in that game.
Definitely makes me itch to play that game again, though this time with some patches such as a retranslation and restoration of censored graphics (religious icons for example were removed from the North American release). Probably the #FrueLufia one.
But it'll definitely be on an emulator where I can use savestates or rewind... the Ancient Cave can be brutal, and after getting a total party wipeout on a fully healed team without a chance to heal or hit back many years ago, I don't think I've attempted it again...
(You basically get reset back to level 1 and lose all your equipment for the duration of the run, and only get to use equipment you found in blue chests in previous runs (and took out of the cave by finishing the cave, or by using an escape item you can find from floor 20 or up).)

I'll probably try to play some more of the #NDS version of #Lufia #CurseOfTheSinistrals though, just to see if the actual storyline and puzzles are decent, but I have the feeling I'll instead give the original #Lufia2 another go again, perhaps with a modern retranslation and bugfix patch of top of #Estpolis2.

Oh, and if you're involved in #gameDev, please don't have your characters break the fourth wall by having them explain which buttons to push. Reading one of the characters say "press the b button to attack", in-universe to another character, really ruins the immersion imho.
I'd much rather see that explained in an overlay window, than as part of the character dialogues. Or, you know, in the actual manual?

Played some #Lufia #CurseOfTheSinistrals on the #NintendoDS earlier. I was hoping for a bit modern version of #Lufia2 #RiseOfTheSinistrals, but the first half hour or so was a rather disappointing experience. It has a completely different mood to it. Not just because the typical #SNES era top-down #RPG perspective has been replaced by a 3D-ish one, and turn based combat is now an active #actionRPG one, but the whole story and characters feel different. It feels dumbed down...
