  1. Finished #Lufia2 last night. Loved the unconventional dungeon designs, the overall pacing, the music and that ending in particular. It has soul and it's a classic for a good reason.

  2. Paused my #Lufia2 playthrough to give the #TrailsInTheSky1st demo a spin. It's really impressive in every regard and I hope it'll do well.

  3. LOL, it's such a small throwaway line by a random #NPC, and I doubt many a player will actually read it since you don't really have a reason to talk to this character, especially not after you first encounter him, but it's still quite funny imho as it's a reference to one of your party members.

Sadly your party doesn't react to it. :(

I like it when NPCs in an #RPG
reward you for going back to previous towns and talk to then when you don't really have a need to, by actually saying something different.

(In this game it's a bit of a mixed bag though. Some say something different, others were clearly not expecting you to return, or weren't expecting you to return before a certain party member had joined you again.)

  5. Started playing #Lufia2: #RiseOfTheSinistrals again, this time with the #FrueLufia patch. :)

It'll probably take a while before I get to the Ancient Cave though.

  7. Watched a #speedrun of #Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals for the #SNES in the Iris% category, where they have to collect all the Iris Treasures from the Ancient Cave in that game.
Definitely makes me itch to play that game again, though this time with some patches such as a retranslation and restoration of censored graphics (religious icons for example were removed from the North American release). Probably the #FrueLufia one.
But it'll definitely be on an emulator where I can use savestates or rewind... the Ancient Cave can be brutal, and after getting a total party wipeout on a fully healed team without a chance to heal or hit back many years ago, I don't think I've attempted it again...
(You basically get reset back to level 1 and lose all your equipment for the duration of the run, and only get to use equipment you found in blue chests in previous runs (and took out of the cave by finishing the cave, or by using an escape item you can find from floor 20 or up).)

  8. #np #nowplaying Lufia 2 SNES OST: Towering Mountain

Has a military vibe to it and it's easy to listen. :blobcatlisten: Good for sprint planning meetings 😅 and strategic roleplaying stuff.

  10. @greyor
looking forward to continuing with #Lufia2 this weekend? :)
Who are in your party currently?

  11. @greyor Do you have experience with other RPGs by #Neverland? For some reason I thought #Lufia2 was a #Squaresoft game, but apparently it's by Neverland, and that name just doesn't really ring a bell to me.

  12. @vicorva years ago I played around with #RPGMakerVXAce for a while, and started on this resource site/page: rpgmaker.fixato.org/

I did start on a script to mimic the Old Cave from #Lufia2 for the #SNES, and to mark areas as spots where you can sleep: youtube.com/watch?v=OAf8s5Ye0n

As well as a tutorial video on how to walk through walls: youtube.com/watch?v=X_rTNVkJCR

But I kinda lost interest after not being able to work on it for extended period due to hardware failure.

  13. I'll probably try to play some more of the #NDS version of #Lufia #CurseOfTheSinistrals though, just to see if the actual storyline and puzzles are decent, but I have the feeling I'll instead give the original #Lufia2 another go again, perhaps with a modern retranslation and bugfix patch of top of #Estpolis2.

  14. Played some #Lufia #CurseOfTheSinistrals on the #NintendoDS earlier. I was hoping for a bit modern version of #Lufia2 #RiseOfTheSinistrals, but the first half hour or so was a rather disappointing experience. It has a completely different mood to it. Not just because the typical #SNES era top-down #RPG perspective has been replaced by a 3D-ish one, and turn based combat is now an active #actionRPG one, but the whole story and characters feel different. It feels dumbed down...

  15. @kelbot @ajroach42
I also should pick up the #Lufia (or rather, #Lufia2) remake for the DS at some point, and finish #ChronoTrigger.

  16. @greyor
sounds like romhacking.net/hacks/4129/ uses that one as a basis, so might be an even better option.
I should play #Lufia2 again some day, but then on an emulator with save states rather than on the real thing; maybe then I'll be able to finish the Ancient Cave for a change...

  17. @greyor I can highly recommend:
#Lufia 2 (please play this one before #Lufia1, as #Lufia2 is a prequel, and starts with a major spoiler for Lufia 2's ending… Also, try to avoid the NA release, as it contains some annoying bugs…)
    #SecretOfMana
    #SecretOfEvermore

And while I still haven't played it myself, my wife really enjoyed #BahamutLagoon

  18. i'd forgotten how much i love the spritework in #Lufia2.

Like, not only do the sprites have good work in general, but the other-colors-for-shading thing is just. really good. like, i know other games do it, cause that's how sprites *work*, but something about how it's done in Lufia 2 is just feels *right*
