@EllenInEdmonton I think she doesn't do well with romance in general. In Yumi's Cells only the MLs were convincing imho. On the other hand her poker face is her strongest point.
In The Price Of Confession she nails the psychopath role. -
When it comes to mystery thriller k-dramas involving psychopaths I can hardly stop from binging them.
And #ThePriceOfConfession ( #자백의대가 ) is particularly intense with tons of plot twists and no clue about the real culprit until the last 2 episodes.

#KimGoEun is finally in a role where she can shine. I always thought her doppelganger character in "The King: Eternal Monarch" to be a better fit than her lead role.

This is maybe the first time I don't hate #LeeMinHo's character. Once I could figure out all the doppelgangers, the plot became quite captivating too. And what a performance by #WooDoHwan! Can we talk about that Busan accent and how he totally nailed the double personality?
A big negative point is the lack of chemistry between the leads. The romance didn't come out well and for me it's a recurring issue with #KimGoEun

Yumi's Cells
(2021 - Viki, 14 1:10 eps)I had delayed watching because I thought it would be like Disney's "Inside Out." As usual, SK does it so much better. Yes, it has super-cute animated emotions & personality traits living in the leads' heads, but they are so insightful they cause epiphanies.
A non-fairytale, slice-of-life about a 30ish woman who has suffered a break-up & is afraid to love again. She takes a chance & her heart begins to open to a guy with his own emotional baggage. The FL's character lacks confidence & isn't direct enough, but seeing the thoughts & emotions made her understandable. The ML also does things I disagree with, but seeing why makes such a difference in my empathy for him.
Everything a great drama should have: tears, laughter, memorable characters, & character growth, I loved this & have started season 2!

Cheese in the Trap
(2016 - Viki, 16 1:05 eps)It was such an unusual journey. Maybe the 7.4 MDL rating is because it's not a comfortable show & the big messages aren't realized until the last eps. Many consider it a classic, probably because of the quality acting, & the unusual twist on a trope.
Not your typical rich chaebol with trauma falling for the poor girl: it is a rollercoaster of emotion. There are sweet friends, imperfect parents, a crazy sibling, a love triangle, & many side characters with difficult personality traits.
Both MLs get angry & act out, but in very different ways. One is much more socially acceptable, the other makes people very uncomfortable. The FL demonstrates that being with a person means accepting the good & the bad in yourself & them.
Now that I know the ending, my perception of the whole thing shifted.

(2016 - Viki, 16 1:22 eps)Lived up to its high rankings on MDL & Viki. *Beautiful* cinematography, iconic scenes referenced in many other dramas, great acting, tropes, humor, the best bromance ever, great 2nd couple, coats galore, outstanding OST, past lives, supernatural beings, agony, joy, & fate.
Most complaints are about the age difference between the leads. The actors were 37 & 25, but Kim Go Eun played a high schooler so convincingly that it felt a bit uncomfortable. She ages 10 years in the show & he doesn't, so it worked for me.
How long do you atone for past sins - especially in a previous life? How long must you carry the guilt? Are some sins unforgivable? What would you sacrifice for love? The show brings up a lot of weighty questions. The writing is mesmerizing at times & very witty.

Kim Go Eun & Kim Kyung Nam’s characters showed a deep friendship, but they’ve known each other for years and they’re now in the their mid 30s and he’s never confessed? What was he waiting for? At first I thought that he hadn’t realized his feelings, but when looking at flashbacks, he knew from nearly the beginning. I felt like he decided to take action only when he thought he was going to lose her and it was already too late.
The worlds weren’t too different, but I felt more explanation of the royal history was needed. Why was the older prince fully in support of the king, but his son wasn’t? Why did that son support the illegitimate heir when it wouldn’t have bought him anything? Did the Prime Minister turn evil just because she couldn’t become queen? I think if some of these things could have been fleshed out more then some actions would have been clearer to me.

Just a couple of points that didn’t sit well with me:
- the FL starts out so strong and competent but tends to fall apart whenever the ML needed to look strong. His strength shouldn’t come at her expense.
- Although they end up together, what kind of life is that? I mean a weekend vacation significant other sounds great, but it ignores the reality of illness and of sharing family and events. ( I kind of felt the same way about the ending of another drama where they get to spend a couple of weeks together every year. )#kdrama #thekingeternalmonarch #kimgoeun #leeminho #woodohwan

The King: Eternal MonarchI wanted to love this one a lot. Lee Min Ho as a King with a horse in a science fiction/fantasy world - what could be better?
I liked it and may watch parts of it again. It’s hard to discuss without spoilers. The story had a lot of potential, but fell short for me. I did love Woo Do Hwan - he was excellent at playing 2 really different characters and he makes it worth watching.
Like Heavenly Idol, I think trying to develop & explain another world in just 16 episodes means you leave out a lot of important character development.
I’d say give it a watch, but don’t expect it to the be the epic it looks to be.
