07-Feb : Most memorable character development?Jang Tae Sang (Park Seo Joon) in Gyeongseong Creature. A man who lived for himself begins to question his values as he becomes concerned for someone else. It's difficult for a character to change so much and still have it be believable. Park Seo Joon does an amazing job.

Park Seo Joon ve İU”nun film çektiklerini biliyordum,fakat yayınlanma tarihini takip etmemiştim. Netflix’te rastgele film ararken bir anda karşıma çıkınca sadece kalakaldım 🙂 Dürüst olayım, evsizlerle düzenlenen bir dünya kupası olduğunu bilmiyordum. Bu film ile öğrenmiş oldum.
Yoon Hong Dae / Park Seo Joon Lee So Min / IUYoon Hong Dae, futbolu seviyor ve mücadele ediyor, ancak annesinin dolandırıcı olması ve bu konunun her röportaj sırasında soruluyor olması onu geriyor ve hata yaptığı bir maç sonrası muhabire ilginç bir yumruk atıyor. İmajını düzeltmek isteyen Ajansı, 2010 Evsizler Dünya Kupası için en acıklı hikayesi olan kişilerden bir takım oluşturan ve bunu belgesele döken IU ile çalışması için kendisini motive ediyor ya da cezalandırıyor.

Ancak film, kazanmaktan ziyade mücadelenin zaferini derinden hissettirdi.
İlk başlarda evsiz futbolcular sadece onlardan istenileni yaptılar. Mücadelenin ZaferiJaponya (burada Japonlar tarafından dövülen İn Seon detayını atlamayalım),Almanya, Kosta Rika, Brezilya ve Güney Kore’nin (Fark ettiyseniz,fimde ‘güney’ diye ayırmadan doğrudan Kore ifadesi kullanıldı) katıldığı turnuva Maceristan’ın başkenti Budapeşte’de düzenlendi. Kore dışındaki tüm takımların oyuncuları uzun boylu, kaslı ve baklavalıydı; yanii ‘bunlar nasıl evsiz’ dedirttiler ve çok bariz bir şekilde fiziksel farklılık vardı. Bu durum Kore’nin turnuvaya geriden başlamasına sebepti. Fakat bunun da sebebi,Lee So Min’in futbolcuları yaşadıkları drama göre seçmiş olmasıydı.Her zaman karşı tarafı suçlayamayız.
Hong Dae’nin çok bir şey söyleyecek gibi duraksayıp ‘anlaşılan bizden güçlüler ‘demesi ve devamını getirmemesi 🙂 Sinirli IU performansı görmemizi sağladı.
Futbolu Dövüşmek Zanneden Almanları Tam Olarak Şu Şekilde İzledimYedek oyuncusu olmayan takımlara yabancı oyuncu transfer edilebiliyordu. Kore takımına 2 Brezilyalı verildi tüm golleri de ikisi attı, ama bu benim, Hong Dae’nin, seyircilerin ve özellikle futbocuların hoşuna gitmedi.Çünkü oraya kazanmak için değil, mücadele vermek, anılar oluşturmak ve kendilerini kanıtlamak için çıkmışlardı.

Filmin bir sahnesinde, hangi yıl olduğunu hatırlamadığım Survivor’da ünlüler kazanıyor olmasına rağmen, uzun zamandır aç, yorgun ve galibiyet alamayan ama gene de çok eğlenerek yarışan Gönüller takımı geldi aklıma. Özellikle turnuvayı yöneten Avrupalı oyuncunun ‘Kore yeniliyor olmasına rağmen farklı bir ruh var ‘dediği yerde, galip olmak için çıkmadılar ama gelmiş olmak için de gelmediklerini fark ettirdiler.

Fight for My Way (rewatch)
(2017 - Viki, 16 1:00 eps)4 friends in their late 20s with unrealized dreams & boring lives create a good friends-to-lovers story with incredible acting, a strong 2nd couple, & touching friendship.
A great Park Seo Joon role (he may be dressed better in others, but his acting shines here) - he plays a not-bright, vulnerable, desperate, yet talented man. Kim Ji Won is amazing. I also loved Song Ha Yoon's acting here - is she really the same actress as "Marry My Husband"'s villain? What a range.
A few tropes: a dark past, old enemies, & love triangles but since these are average people, it comes off differently. The 2nd couple's story is unexpected. There is romance & great MMA action, but the stars of this drama are young adults coming into their own, creating the lives they want for themselves, despite hardships.

Gyeongseong Creature
(2023 - Netflix, 10 1:10 eps)Unusual in that it depicts the Japanese occupation in 1945 & the war crimes. Many actors turned down the roles because the topic is too sensitive.
When you hate horror, but you find yourself rooting for the creature, you know the writing & acting are fabulous. The costumes are wonderful, the sets, the props, all superbly executed. It is a stellar production.
An unwilling hero finds himself "drafted". Enlisting the help of professional detectives, they set off to find out what exactly is happening. It's a great mystery thriller with action, family & community, & romance.
The questions of what would you do under torture, what do you turn a blind eye to, how much risk are you willing to take, will haunt you as you see what the characters are up against.
Anxiously awaiting part 2.

Hwarang: The Poet Warrior YouthThis watch was even better! The episodes seem 5 minutes long.
I had watched originally for my Park Hyung Sik & Park Seo Joon quests. Now I see so many familiar faces. The acting is top-notch.
For BTS fans, this was V's acting debut & he won an award for Best Idol Actor that year.
I paid much more attention to the music (which I loved before, but now I see the contribution to the story & love that 3 of the actors sang tracks).
Now that I've seen several historicals, I appreciate the costuming here - the details are gorgeous.
Not to mention over the top swashbuckling fighting in silk robes, sweet moments, funny, seasoned actors, & shower scenes.
I think this will continue to be a holiday tradition.

(2016 - Viki, 20 1:00 eps)For a holiday treat, I rewatched Hwarang (1st watched in March '23 - just 6 months into my kDrama hobby).
I'll put the summary here & my thoughts in a comment because I ran into a character limit.
It's a story of political intrigue. The Queen Mother sends the crown prince into hiding for his safety. He never develops the relationships he needs to take power & doesn't have confidence in his ruling abilities. Through a new group of young warriors (the Hwarang), the future king discovers himself & his abilities. There is a lot of comedy, but the political story takes over the last 3 - 4 episodes. There's bromance & romance. Watching the friendships develop between the Hwarang is one of my favorite things.

Midnight Runners
(2017 Viki, Movie 1:49)Great action movie! 2 police university students discover a crime that needs urgent attention & the regular police are too busy. They learn a lot through their efforts & mistakes as they struggle with some ethical questions. There is some comedy & a good bromance, but no romance. I'm glad they didn't try to add that in. That would have been too much for a movie. There are a lot of good fight scenes & training for fighting. I was impressed that the leads don't win every fight, so you don't know what will happen.
If you watch, make sure to watch through the first part of the credits, there's another scene that makes a perfect ending.

I think maybe the short movie format was to blame? I didn’t think I saw nearly enough of IU. She & Park Seo Joon were great together when they were on screen, but there wasn’t as much of them together as I expected.But I still loved the movie. It’s a definite pick-me-up movie for me.
