How long have I been watching #Kdramas? Baby, since the 2000s. 😆 Gloria is one of my favorites - super soapy, starting Bae Doona before she went international, with a killer OST and a romance storyline that spanned 50 episodes

Or how my mum was addicted to Dong Yi, which was a Southeast Asian phenomenon and it was 60 episodes.

Our short attention spans now could never....

Yesterday I finally spotted “Spooky in Love” in the Coming Soon section of #Netflix! I also noticed another #Kdrama that will start on August 7, “Our Sticky Love” – https://asianwiki.com/Our_Sticky_Love (it seems a typical romcom). Both #Kdramas have Italian subtitles (good for me!).

I noticed yesterday two #Kdramas on #Netflix that will be released soon:

1) “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” – https://asianwiki.com/The_Midnight_Romance_in_Hagwon
It’s not a new #Kdrama (2024) but will be released next Tuesday.
It seems like a romantic story, so I would be interested. But I don’t see Italian subtitles.

2) “The East Palace” – https://asianwiki.com/The_East_Palace
This new drama will start on July 17. It’s a kind of “horror” story, so I’m unsure if I’ll watch it. This has Italian subtitles.

I'm sitting here absolutely bawling, tears flowing down my face, as I watch The Kings Affection in background. It's a Netflix k-drama, for those that don't know it. Korea is lately putting out some brilliant works.

I'm only about 3/4 through and won't spoil anything by going onto detail. I see homages to Twelfth Night and Roshomon. It's nicely structured.

It's a good love story, but also a recurring theme of some of these Korean dramas is such an honor and dignity and hope through real adversity. It's like the kind of television I watched and plays I worked on even, like Camelot and especially A Man for All Seasons, which was very formative for me.

Things that understand the struggle between Good and Evil is important to see and engage, even where nuance makes the lines between them blurred. These Korean works seem to be targeting an intelligent audience who wants to think. I love the genre, and this one is a good example.

I think at some point the US decided that cynicism sells better than promise, and we have done well in exposing the many ways that society fails people, yet in the process we have somehow managed to deliver a sense of hopelessness and fatalism that is itself a cancer, suggesting the individual might as well just go for what's theirs. I love that these writers are still portraying another path.

I noticed just yesterday on #Netflix two new #Kdramas that will start in May:
- May 8, “My Royal Nemesis” – https://asianwiki.com/My_Royal_Nemesis
- May 15, “The WONDERfools” – https://asianwiki.com/The_WONDERfools

The first seems a sort of fantasy drama set between the Joseon era and the present. The second is also a fantasy drama about supernatural powers (and I really hope it’s *not* like Cashero).

Netflix is a great source of #Kdramas for me, I have already watched more than 70!
Another good source is Rakuten #Viki – https://www.viki.com
It has prices similar to Netflix (a bit lower). Typically, a K-drama is only on one or the other, but sometimes it’s on both platforms.
For example, I just noticed that Viki also has “Phantom Lawyer”... and with Italian subtitles! So, I’m starting to feel like subscribing to Viki.

I noticed on #Netflix that a new #KoreanMovie is about to be released on March 31: “Humint” – https://asianwiki.com/Humint_(Korean_Movie)

Initially, I didn’t intend to watch this movie because my current mood prefers lovely #Kdramas like “Boyfriend on Demand” and “Still Shining”.
But ... then .... I also noticed that Shin Se-Kyung is in this movie! Thus, I will probably watch it in the future, but at least *not* immediately.

I chose the #Kdramas based on the story/context that inspired me, but also (in good part) based on the FL. 😊 For example:

Delightfully Deceitful --> Chun Woo-Hee!
Descendants of the Sun --> Kim Ji-Won!
Doom at Your Service --> Park Bo-Young!
Dr. Romantic --> Seo Hyun-Jin!
Healer --> Park Min-Young!
Hyde Jekyll, Me --> Han Ji-Min!
My Dearest --> Ahn Eun-Jin!
etc.

After I recently changed my Netflix language to English, tons of #Kdramas have popped up! This is my watching wish list for the coming months (no specific preference order):

Delightfully Deceitful — Descendants of the Sun — Doom at Your Service — Dr. Romantic — Healer — Hyde Jekyll, Me — My Dearest — Strong Girl Bong-Soon — Tale of the Nine Tailed — Uncontrollably Fond — When the Weather is Fine

There are no Italian subtitles for these, but English “should” be fine for me. 😉
