Park Min-young loses and gains weight for her characters. In "Confidence Queen" she seemed a healthy weight - still thin, but much better.

In "Love in Contract" and in "Marry My Husband" she lost weight because the characters' stories fit someone who was very thin.

  3. *** City Hunter (2011) ***
    (YouTube 20 1:05 eps)

    [!!CW!! Synopsis & non-spoilery review.]

Revenge on the 5 corrupt men who caused a tragedy wreaks havoc on innocent people. A boy has been trained his whole life to exact revenge & now has a position at the Blue House in IT security.

This could be called the drama of horrible fathers. An action series, but unusual for good character development. There's law & then there's justice. The prosecutor, Lee Jun Hyuk, does a fabulous job of showing his frustration with the system, the corruption & his own feelings of guilt. Lee Min Ho is excellent as he realizes that what he's believed all his life may not be what it seems.

The open ending wasn't satisfying, but the rest of it was still worth watching. Very little romance. FL's character could have been written better, but she's a side story. Enough twists make it exciting.

  4. I realise many of my friends are bewildered by my new found love for #kdrama but one of the reasons I watch is because it's escapism or sometimes just therapeutic. Been a really difficult week at work with some (possibly unfixable) tech problems and chaos amongst people we support.. so decided I needed something calm and restful and been watching #WhenTheWeatherIsFine which is a very slow, musical, poetic story of small town rural life, friendships, love, guilt, forgiveness set around a small bookshop. FL is the fabulous #ParkMinYoung and very different from anything I've seen her in before. Also features #LeeJaeWook in a small role as an old school friend.

She is one of my most favorite actresses. I've seen her in everything mentioned here as well as Sungkyunkwan Scandal (which I really enjoyed).

I've been looking for City Hunter for a while now, but haven't come across it on any of the convenient streaming services yet.

She can do it all - comedy, tragedy, romance & she's even starred in a Chinese drama. She's also won many best actress awards (as well as best couple, best kiss, most popular, etc.)

  8. @jcurries @joakimfors @ShaulaEvans
Ooh, let me know if you want to jointwatch it! I suspect that I'd be less taken with some aspects and more interested in others, going through it again. It's also a show that I watched early on in my journey.

  9. Unfortunately on Prime, but I'm very happy for Park Min-young. "The Confidence Man" comes out in 2025.

"The Confidence Man KR is the first Korean drama selected to launch Amazon Prime Video's lineup of Korean originals. Until now, Korean dramas on the platform were featured on a separate Korean drama section, not as part of its lineup of originals.

High Ground stated, "Park Min Young's lead role in an Amazon original drama marks a milestone not only in her career but also in the history of K-content."

  10. @technicat

I 1st saw her in "Sec. Kim" & she was cute and did well with the trauma parts, but didn't really get on my radar.

On my Song Kang quest I saw her in "Forecasting Love & Weather" then I started my PMY quest.

    I've seen her in:
    - Her Private Life
    - Healer
    - Sungkyunkwan Scandal
    - When the Weather is Fine
    - Love in Contract

And she nailed every one of those roles. I keep looking for "City Hunter" but none of my streaming services has it.

    #Day16 Best actress of 2024

I believe the best female role in 2024 has been interpreted by Park Min-young in Marry My Husband.

The way she acted as a cancer patient first to later slowly evolve into a strong and confident woman was absolutely remarkable. She's a great actress.

  12. @templarknight

She also picks interesting parts and can play silly, serious, cute, and/or sexy - but always intelligent.

    One of my favorite actresses.

  13. Marry My Husband
    (2024 - Prime, 16 1:10 eps)

Changing fate by going back in time with the twist that fate is fate. Who ends up with that fate by changing their own behavior & circumstances is the story here.

A woman who has never stood up for herself dies at the hands of her cheating husband. Waking up 10 years earlier, she learns to advocate for herself.

Great acting by all - special mention for Park Min Young & Song Ha Yoon. Their commitment to their roles was evident. Lee Yi Kyung brings humor to his villain, which provides relief from the outright madness of the other antagonists.

The great side stories are relief from the revenge & craziness.

The show hit double digit ratings domestically & is trending internationally. It's a great watch.

  14. @ronsboy67 imho some k-dramas are worth watching even if they aren't perfect or good enough.

For instance I gave a very low score to #CrashLandingOnYou but I think everyone should watch it because the parts about North Korea's lifestyle and humour made that #kdrama one of a kind.

In #MarryMyHusband #ParkMinYoung 's acting is absolutely brilliant in depicting her character transformation. Viewers can fast forward from episode 12 onwards, but up until that point it's a great drama.

  15. #kdrama I do love Korean actresses and I'm getting more and more worried by how thin and unhealthily underweight they are.

#ParkMinYoung in #MarryMyHusband has such thin legs I am truly concerned she may faint at any time.
#SeoYeaJi in #ItSOkNotToBeOkay has the waist of a little girl. Her dresses are awesome in that #kdrama but when they're tight on the waist I can't hide the shock.

The beauty standards changed for men, why aren't they changing for women too?

  16. CW: Marry My Husband ep 9

Looool I didn't expect the Catwoman outfit!
I've never seen #ParkMinYoung wearing something so sexy and provocative 😂😂😂

    #kdrama #MarryMyHusband

  17. Gone through the first 6 episodes of #MarryMyHusband and it's so good!
#ParkMinYoung is nailing a difficult role with a personality slowly evolving. The directors are keen to emphasize the contrast and it's so thrilling to root for justice.
#NaInWoo already made my heart flutter in #LongingForYou but here I expect a better kissing scene 😚
I can't wait to watch the next 2 episodes

    #kdrama

  18. @templarknight @s1m0n4 @EllenInEdmonton @JPK_elmediat

Yep. Her performance in "When the Weather if Nice" is amazing. I feel she tends to pick difficult roles with characters we might not like immediately.

  19. @EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @JPK_elmediat I don't think I would have finished What's Wrong With Secretary Kim if it weren't for #ParkMinYoung
Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not a big fan of #ParkSeoJoon

    #kdrama

  20. @whoosh @JPK_elmediat I'm considering putting #MarryMyHusband into my watchlist too. I'm not entirely convinced by the synopsis, however #ParkMinYoung is capable of turning even a #kdrama I don't like into an enjoyable one 😉

  21. Sungkyunkwan Scandal
    (2010 Viki, 20 1:10 eps)

A stop on my Park Min Young quest. I was not disappointed! Keeping in mind that it is 13 years old, some minor things, like pacing, if redone today, would likely change.

The 4 main characters where very well acted, but it easy to see why PMY & Song Joong Ki have gone on to have stellar careers. They both stole the show.

Beautiful friendships, a sweet romance, & a smart & determined FL. The history was, from what little I know, somewhat factual. The series addresses class & gender inequality, homosexuality, & talks about western philosophy as opposed to Confucianism.

Although there were small lulls here & there in the action & the romance, it was almost binge-worthy. Unexpected things happened at the end, which made it more fun. It is definitely going to be a future rewatch!

Oh! It’s so good! [I don’t think it beats Happiness for me - darn PHS bias 😉 ], but still a favorite.

Loving my Park Min Young quest & seeing Kim Mi Kyung with her. They work so well together. PMY has chemistry with everyone I’ve seen her with so far. She is a great actress.

Wow. Just wow. I regret to have attributed such high notes to other dramas before because this one goes off scale.
    Vote: 11/10
Thanks to everyone here who recommended it to me. It's now my favorite drama (beating even #Happiness ladies and gentlemen) with the most wonderful love story and characters.

There's action, love, romance, crime, psychological insights and excellent actors. Not only the lead couple #JiChangWook and #ParkMinYoung already [1/2]

  25. One of the shows I started recently is "Sungkyunkwan Scandal” because of Park Min Young. I was surprised & thrilled to see Kim Mi Kyung as PMY’s mother once again.

I wondered how often both these amazing actresses had worked together and found these dramas:

2010 Running Gu (Moon Haeng Joo & Mother)
2010 Sungkyunkwan Scandal (Kim Yoon Hee/Shik & Mother)
2014 Healer (Chae Yeong Shin & Hacker)
2019 Her Private Life (Sung Duk Mi & Mother)
2022 Forecasting Love & Weather (Jin Ha Kyung & Mother)

I’ve seen all but “Running Gu” & only at the beginning of SScandal. The ones I’ve seen are great dramas.

  26. @MisuseCase

Sungyunkwan Scandal is on my Park Min Young Quest. I haven’t watched it yet, but it was one of her early lead roles.

I don’t know much of Joseon history yet, but “Our Blooming Youth” did have the Left & Right State Court Ministers building their own power bases and manipulating the court & the king. I wonder if those correlate at all to the political parties of the time? It had a great mystery too.

  27. @jodmentum @jillithd

I do already have Jinny’s Kitchen on my list, because yes, I am on a Park Seo Joon quest. I will look at the others!

I am also on Park Hyung Sik and Park Min Young quests at the moment.

  28. When the Weather Is Fine (2020 Netflix 16 1:00 eps)

SLOW but so GOOD! 1st, know that in my eyes, Park Min-young can do no wrong. I started it thinking it might be a cute love story, but it was very different. I hadn't seen Seo Kang Joon in anything yet, but now I will look for him. He was perfect for this character. The drama is **very** slow-paced, but the pacing fits the story perfectly. There isn't even a lot of dialog, but at times what is said hits you like a thunderbolt.

There is a lot of trauma to be processed, but both the lead actors are fabulous at bringing us along on their journeys. Lots of crying for me. If you can stick out the slow pace, it's very therapeutic. The little sister & her shenanigans bring some comedic relief when needed, but it is a heavy drama.

If you watch, be sure to read the blog post at the end of each episode, these are crucial to the story.

  29. @PaxAsteriae
Park Min-young is one of my favorite actresses. I have loved her in everything she’s done.

I enjoyed Forecasting Love & Weather because they provided enough technical stuff to learn a little about weather forecasting in S.Korea. I loved the older woman/younger man theme. And I loved the directing - how you think one scene went one way, but then later on you find out so much happened that you didn’t notice.

  30. Healer (2014, Viki)

Again, I thought it would be a nice light drama to help with the angst of the other 2 dramas I’m watching. It ended up being a binge. Excellent story, great action, wonderful romance, fabulous acting.

Ji Chang-wook was made for action shows. Park Min-young was also great. Although I can see how she’s grown as an actress over the last 9 years, she was still very, very good in this.

The stories of reporters from 2 generations is captivating - centering on power & the corruption it brings.
