  1. [#Introduction] :boosts_ok:
I finally got around around to re-writing my badly outdated intro after a full year :leafeon_giggle:

Hi Fediiiii :mew_wave: I'm Octavia, a trans-fem Japanese and USian bard, violinist, streamer, and vtuber who uses her classical training to play all of the wonderful soundtracks that exist in the world :eevee_joy:

Games, anime, movies, visual novels, and any other sort of soundtrack I can get my hands on are in my repertoire :shiba_love: I stream on Youtube and Twitch and spend the time introducing people to soundtracks and taking soundtrack requests :charmander_yay:

Over the last 1.5 years, I've also dealt with long covid, which makes my stamina 20% of what it used to be, alongside making everything cost more and recover slower, which has been a frustrating journey, and I've become nearly unable to do in-person performances because even the travel is exhausting :not_like_this: I'm also AuDHD, and always have the specter of repetitive stress injuries looking over my shoulders :blob_sweat:

On Fedi, I tend to talk about games, manga, trans-fem stuff, and streaming, as well as heavier topics like transphobia, transmisogyny, and racism :zerotwo_learn: (my boosts tend to be slightly wider in topics, including appropriately CW'd lewd material and artists (and if you want just my posts, you can set the option to not see my boosts~))

  2. [Radio Tavi] [6]

To The Beginning (Kalafina, Yuki Kajiura) [Fate/Zero OST]
    youtube.com/watch?v=PPH8Y6sOLc

This is one of those all-too-common cases of "haven't watched/played it but I know the soundtrack". Kalafina was a 3-person vocal group with Yuki Kajiura behind them and gods, they put out some real bangers :shiba_excited: in this instance asked to sing an opening to the Fate/Zero anime series.

Often on Radio Tavi, I link a cover instead of the original because, much of the time, I find that a cover (or three) performed it so well that it becomes my default for when I want to listen to that piece/song, but much like Queen, the skills of Kalafina are hard to out-do and I end up mostly listening to the originals :shiba_love:

Keiko is the singer that sings the lowest part of the three and has such a way with that lower register that Kajiura Yuki herself mentions in one of her many concerts that she has a depth and richness to her voice that is hard to find among female vocalists :bugcat_nod:

Oh, and hopefully, I've been able to introduce pieces to everyone that they might not have otherwise known about or listened to through Radio Tavi :hug_love:

  3. [Radio Tavi] [2]

This next one is a rather recent addition to my library, composed by my favourite composer, Kajiura Yuki (sorry Bach, sorry Jeremy Soule). It's the live version of a piece written for the event Sword Art Online: Full Dive with an unusual 8(9?) vocalists, most likely all with differing parts :cat_excited:

One of my favourite things about her live performances is the consistent depth of the vocal harmonies. They feel wonderful to listen to but are also wonderfully engaging for my mind which constantly wants to pick the music apart and think about it :leafeon_giggle:

  4. CW: Introduction, Wall-o'-text

:boosts_appreciated: November reboost since it's been half a year and people still forget that Japanese is my first language (though both Japanese and English are both mother tongues for me :cat_giggle: )

Hi, I'm a professional violinist who plays soundtracks :sylveon_squish:

    Ok, #Introduction over. I'm a musician, not a wordsmith :growlithe_derp:

I'm being gently informed by my responsible half that I'm to write a *proper* intro, as she puts it...

Hi Fedi/Mastodon, I'm Octavia, a 30ish Japanese and USian violinist (and composer) whose mother introduced her to the violin at age 5 and Super Mario Brothers at age 3. This would go on to have profound consequences, chief amongst which was that the majority of the activities I enjoy involve fingertip dexterity. The secondary effect was that I would go on to use the classical training I received throughout my childhood to, for the most part, play soundtracks while letting my classical repertoire languish :blobhaj_peek:

Nintendo classics like Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Pokemon, and Smash, JRPG classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy (IX and X specifically), movie soundtracks including a bunch of Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki Hayao works, Disney, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribbean, and Master & Commander (which is just my excuse to play the Bach Cello Suite no. 1: Prelude :leafeon_giggle: ), and a few anime pieces here and there (along with at least one My Little Pony theme :blobhaj_jam: ) are the bulk of what I play when I perform solo. I do play classical pieces here and there, but they mostly tend to be various movements from the Bach Cello Suites, along with a smattering of Celtic music, though I try to mix everything together in my sets, leaving people guessing as to what's a soundtrack and what's not :blobhaj_peek:

I perform at various conventions in the Pacific Northwest of the US (formerly in Brook and Link cosplays), whether inside or outside, and also perform as part of Troupe Seven Stars at faires in the area over the summer months while filling the rest of my time playing solo or ensemble shows, mostly near Portland. I also stream performances when the mood strikes me.

I tend to spend my free time dissociating in the shower, overcoming whatever ADHD lobs my way, and running out the door like an alternate-universe fusion of Bilbo Baggins and the March Hare from Alice in Wonderland (though, to my astonishment, I've only been late to 2 gigs in my life that I remember). What crumbs of time are spared from those tend to be spent on gaming, reading manga/watching anime, listening to and sharing music (yes, mostly soundtracks), and enjoying what the internet has to offer. The fact that I can just read manga in Japanese really helps because of the mountains of deserving manga that never get translations.

Aside from needing to hop instances, I've found my time on the Fedi to be enjoyable, and I hope to keep meeting interesting, genuine people and sharing time and conversations together :espeon_love:
