On March 20, I will release “Songs in My Dreams”.

This time, I am not only composing and producing - I am also singing. The voice is not an added layer; it is the structural center of the piece. That decision changes the internal balance of a composition. Writing for one’s own voice exposes different thresholds: range, breath, fragility, restraint.

The lyrics were written deliberately in a poetic mode. Not as narrative explanation, but as condensation. I was less interested in describing dreams than in articulating the tension that follows them - the moment of waking when something internally coherent withdraws. Poetry allows ambiguity to remain intact. It resists closure.

For me, composition and research are not separate domains. My studio practice functions as a primary field of inquiry. Questions about memory, internal auditory imagery, and the instability of recall are worked through musically before they are formulated conceptually. In that sense, the act of writing and singing this song is already part of the investigation.

Some early genre classifications place the track within Adult Contemporary, based on its formal clarity and melodic hooks. I neither pursue nor reject such labels. They describe external features. My focus lies on the underlying processes.

“Songs in My Dreams” is therefore less about dreaming itself than about the awareness of loss - and the attempt to give that absence a voice.

What has been your most successful resource for hiring a pianist / accompanist for long distance collaboration?
No, there is no-one local. Yes, I've looked. For years. It's all country and emo-punk around here, or the actually trained musicians are working as teachers and have no free time.

My first thought is to go with Fiverr, but I wondered if anyone knew of anything "better." (Or anyone specific on Fiverr?) I know there are sortof musician-exclusive Fiverr-type websites, but I'm not sure about the userbase size and general trustworthiness vs "we hyped this up but it's pretty cobwebby"…

† yes, vocalists are musicians, too — I'm just covering all my bases

PS - Not looking for "live" recording, just someone I can give sheet music w/ some directions to and have them record me a track.

Featuring the talents of soprano Claire Fedoruk and pianist Lydia Wu, LIVING THE AFTERMATH is a song cycle that transforms grief into music, guiding listeners through its universal yet deeply personal journey. Each movement symbolizes a stage of grief — from acknowledgment to understanding, acceptance, and finally, the hope embodied in the closing piece, Psalm 47. The result is not only a reflection of loss and tragedy but also a perspective that uplifts, offering a path forward through sound.

Few things are as paradoxically universal and idiosyncratic as grief: it befalls everyone at some point, but the manner in which it is handled is deeply personal. Artists, naturally, turn to art. Composers turn to composing. And Sarah Wallin Huff has created a musical vademecum in LIVING THE AFTERMATH, a song cycle which not only validates loss and tragedy, but also offers a path forward.

Each part of this song cycle symbolizes a different stage of grief. In the first, sorrow is acknowledged; in the second, understood; in the third, accepted; and in the album’s closing piece, Psalm 47, the path forward is illuminated and embraced with hope. This is an album that does what few can: it offers perspective — and the result is genuinely uplifting.
