  1. Soil is under-appreciated. But it's vital in so many ways.

We depend on it for our survival yet we’re currently losing it 50-100 times faster than it’s able to rebuild.

There are more micro-organisms in one teaspoon of soil than there are humans on the planet! 🪱

Here's a deeper look at the importance of soil for #WorldSoilDay

  2. "#IntensiveFarming is the predominant method of producing #meat, #dairy products and #eggs in Europe and elsewhere in the world. It is also recognised as one of the most polluting industries worldwide in 2024, generating nearly 15% of global #greenhousegas emissions. However, the impact of #livestock farming on its immediate environment remains relatively unexplored."

  3. Intensive agriculture is killing the environment.

In Campo de Cartagena in #Murcia illegal wells, illegal desalination and overuse of fertiliser turned #MarMenor into a sewer.

In this article: illegal irrigation of avocado and mango plantations is drying up rivers in the #Malaga area - in turn this will lead to #desertification of the region.

That avocado on your toast is costing the Earth, probably.

    Are home #hydroponics the answer?

  4. "a large # of #students in #Thailand r deprived of vital nutrients in their diet, farmers in the country r also suffering fr an #unsustainable #foodproduction system .. bec they r forced to opt for #intensivefarming & hv to sell their crops cheaply to #middlemen .. even tho the govt claims to be supporting organic farming, organic farmers still don't get enough backing .. their lack of access to markets also makes them financially unstable, which deters others from switching to #organicfarming"

  5. PM2.5 pollution from ammonia resulting from spreading manure on farmland much more relevant than particulate pollution from cars. I wasn't expecting THAT!

'Potentially lethal to fish and dangerous for humans, the summer’s #toxic invader is caused by #WarmingSeas and strong winds'

  7. Just listening to this podcast about #Animal #Sentience, that looks into research showing just how similar we animals really are.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise tho, eh? 😉

We already use the equivalent of all the #Americas for #livestock, i. e. #meat and #DairyProduction. This must be reduced. In so doing, this would greatly advance humanity in our aim to preserve #biodiversity when combined with less #IntensiveFarming methods, such as rededicating a certain amount of "Green strips" to #wildlife.

  13. To Avoid Another Pandemic, We Need to Eat Less Meat

Intensive animal farming is breeding deadly diseases.

With Covid-19 in retreat, another virus is currently tearing through the UK, albeit with much less fanfare: bird flu. In fact, we’re in the midst of the union’s largest bird flu outbreak in history.

  18. @Cloudguy @descarnada

I understand your arguments, and welcome them. But probably we can do a lot to reduce significantly the #animal products, #eggs included. For two main reasons:

    - #animalAbuse
    - #energySustainability

Just reducing 50-75% the animal products consume help us a lot in the second issue.

But the point is that #intensiveFarming has no future in a #fossilScarcity #future.
