Am Weltbodentag bzw. WORLD SOIL DAY wird in Deutschland jährlich ein Boden für´s nächste Jahr gekürt. 2024 war es (lange überfällig!) der Waldboden; in 2025 waren es die "Rendzinen" (durch Verwitterungslösung entstandene Böden) und für 2026 ist der sog. "Archivboden" als Boden des Jahres erkoren. Dieser wird als besonderer Zeuge der Vergangenheit gesehen.

5th December, World Soil Day.

The hectare of arable land behind our house is waterlogged again.
Years of maize production for "biogas" have degraded the land so much, that it's full of moss, rushes, St. John's wort and saplings of bramble, alder and hawthorn.
The tenant didn't even bother to do anything with it this year, but one mulching cut in late autumn. Probably it's as fallow in the books to comply with EU environment regulation.
