I have an old #Netgear #R9000 WiFi #router acting as an access point. This router is end-of-life and supposedly no longer receives firmware updates; there was a security update last September, so it isn't _too_ stale.
Because it's serving as an access point it has no public IP address, though obviously a sufficiently dedicated attacker could literally sit outside our house and talk to it over WiFi.
If you were in my shoes, what would you do with this router?

Looking at downloading MacOS 15 (Sequoia) - quite an upgrade from my MacOS 12 (Monterey). Lately Frontier internet has been super spotty for us. Thinking of getting a wireless hotspot to use as a backup when we need it, anyone know of a good 5g hotspot that you can use intermittently as needed? Ideally it would have an Ethernet connection to connect to my UDM-Pro.

Until the fiber outside our house gets lit, we've been using T-Mobile home Internet. Tower is right outside our neighborhood. We get fantastic speeds. Our phones use T-Mobile on the backend too. Well, someone decided to severely vandalize the tower. Cut the cables, damaged the cabinets. We've been down for days barely getting a bar from another tower. 😭

They're saying it'll be days before they get it back up.

My weekend project - labeling and upgrading all the #RG59 cables and wall plates in our 65 year old house. Ran a brand new, shorter, and more direct cable to our #CableModem and the signal is vastly improved as you can see in the second picture. So, in case anyone is wondering, last night #tmobile pushed an update to some of its #HomeInternet devices which rendered them unable to connect to the internet.
Lucky Me, I'm one of those customers.
Supposedly their engineers are working on a solution... #Supposedly.
Guess I get to wait and see.
Meanwhile, tethering my desktop to my cellphone so I can get some work done...

UPDATE: It took over 45 minutes just to cancel the free trial... (first in a chat, then in a phone call that was then transferred to another phone call).

T-Mobile 5G home Internet. $50/mo.

(I going to pass unless it starts getting a lot faster during my free trial.)

@newsbot The cell service for #t-mobile isn’t that bad. I had 5g across the UP of Michigan. It’s the #homeinternet that is the problem. There are times I have to airplay from my phone to my Apple TV css as use my home internet is not there or so slow that I can’t even stream low definition tv.
