  1. Cool update to the #Firewalla app .... Realtime data on wan throughput.

  2. I'm REALLY pissed about this #Firewalla #MSP portal! I used to have so much more control over my machine as part of my astronomical $467 purchase for a HOME FIREWALL!

Now, I have to pay $3/mo just in order to use my own damed computer's web browser instead of their iPhone app!

Try entering all the domains in your iPhone to block:

    proxyjs.brdtnet.com
    proxyjs.luminatinet.com
    proxyjs.bright-sdk.com
    clientsdk.bright-sdk.com

  3. @lehtimaeki I have a #firewalla Gold which does the same thing as a PiHole, amongst other things. That is a game changer! That's also one of the reasons why I'm always VPNed home when I'm on my mobile connection, this way, I enjoy a less cluttered, more private experience all the time

  4. I have a #Firewalla that takes care of my all network and it's behind my ISP router. I also use my Firewalla as a #Wireguard server so I can use a VPN when I'm outside. Yet, whenever I tried to connect from my LAN to Wireguard, my phone's network would not work anymore. I figured out yesterday that the issue is my tunnel is using the DynDNS address provided by Firewalla and therefore the public address. Adding a custom DNS entry to point to the local address when inside my LAN fixes the issue!

  5. Does anyone out there have a #Firewalla (Gold) that I can ask a question of?

The question would be this: I have my 1st #WAN (of multi-wan) as cable modem. That has a static-ish PUBLIC IP. The 2nd #WAN is #TMobile's 5g gateway (currently set as failover-only) which Firewalla sees as Multi-nat'd.

I want to know if firewalla can #VPN ONLY THROUGH 5G (2nd) WAN so I can do true multi-wan with a public IP. ... ie: tunnel over the 5g connection to a paid-for-#VPN.

    Please re-toot if possible.
    THX!

  6. There are some OpenVPN recommendations in here to avoid having your DNS leaked but another good solution is to run Unbound network-wide. Firewalla has it built into their firewall and it works without issue.

  7. Finally ponied up for a #Firewalla and put the #TP-Link #Deco units in AP mode. I cannot stress enough how horrible the Deco platform is as a router. Everything I was unable to do with the Deco is configured and working as desired on day one with the Firewalla.

  8. Has anyone used the Firewalla hardware firewall products?

    firewalla.com

Expensive, but no subscription fees, and the feature list is impressive. Looks like a good alternative router to Unifi?

What gives me a little doubt is they've only been around a few years, and there isn't much discussion about them yet.

If you've used one, what do you think (good or bad)?

  9. @davemark Just a reminder that a firewall/router like #Firewalla would've detected this and allowed you to block the #hisense within hours of it first happening! I rely on #Firewalla!

  10. Anybody have experience with #firewalla products? Highly interested but having trust issues. 😅

  11. Turns out it was because the Eth ports on the back of the Firewalla router are NOT switched. Poor little Apple box was probably having a hell of a time rejecting unrelated packets!

Put a switch off the router and moved the wired devices over. It’s been perfect since.

Summary: Do not plug consumer devices directly into the unswitched ports on the back of a Firewalla router.

    #AppleTV #HomePods #Firewalla

  12. Not sure if this will help anyone, but I just fixed a networking problem that has plagued us for a long time. Our #AppleTV was being really really flaky. Complaining about there being no network when there was. The #HomePods attached to it would get thrown off constantly. It was a very non-Apple experience. But I could never diagnose it.

It was plugged into the back of the #Firewalla router.

Recently I noticed a new event log in the router app that showed that Eth port crapping out constantly.

  13. @marcoarment Have you ever thought about approaching #Firewalla as a sponsor? I don't know if they do sponsorships but they'd be a perfect fit for your podcast...and it's an AMAZING product.

  14. #Firewalla needs to stop putting #podcast networks under the generic #Video tag. They're audio podcasts!

  15. Crap. Since last week I was deciding which #Ubiquiti devices to get to replace my Eero network devices and the #U7Pro sold out twice. thinking of picking an #u6mesh for the area where i would eventually want something like u7 pro. Even considering a #u6enterprise for that area, but that would be overkill. Even if it's for the first floor, since it just an apartment. #UniFi p.s. i'm keeping my #Firewalla as my router and firewall.

  16. I would love to hear if anyone else has thoughts on the #pfSense vs #opnsense vs #Firewalla topic

  17. Recently grabbed a #Firewalla Purple to test it out and wow, this this is really nifty! I don’t think I am ready to give up my PFSense/opnsense setup yet, but this Firewalla is really enticing me. I think it is the closed source ness of it that makes me not fully ready to jump in. I am a huge Open Source fan, especially for my #selfhosted services.

  18. @thomastraynor Depends on which company you choose. #Firewalla, for instance, charges enough for the product and makes it w/open source linux and other tools - guaranteeing future ability to hack it if I need to.

    #Hubitat? The same.

So, yes, most companies are selling you a pricy brick. SOME good ones sell user-handle-able devices.
