@MattMoose
If you speak about the #homefeed (or how it's called), I remember seeing a #setting that said something like “show button instead of jumping to new content” before the last #Mastodon #update. But now, I don't find it any more.Was it moved, removed, or I'm just missing it?
-
Within the past week, at least twice I've seen, in my #HomeFeed, posts from an account I don't follow, not showing as boosted by anyone I follow, and containing no hashtags I follow (I've methodically checked all hashtags in case I forgot following or errantly followed any).
They show up both in the Mastodon web interface and the Mastodon mobile app. Interestingly, in the 2 recent cases they were posts from the same account. (I saw this once before shortly after I arrived here with a post from a different account so it's not unique to a single account, and yet...) Only mildly annoying but I really want to figure out how this happens!
-
To avoid social media burnout, I strictly follow #technology-heavy hashtags and accounts in #Fediverse (esp #Mastodon.)
Today a #toot about religion ended up in my #HomeFeed.
I checked very carefully to see if accidentally contains any keyword/hashtag I'm listening on: it, obviously, did NOT.
Assuming there are no recommendation algorithms, how could that happen!?
Have you experienced such a thing before? Or was it just an unfortunate one-off glitch?
-
Why does #trunksapp continual #refresh in my #HomeFeed as new toots occur? Every few seconds, I am sent back to see the new toot. It's making the app unusable as I can't even finish reading a toot before it refreshes and I have to start over. Is their a #setting that I am missing?

Just got started on #firefish and wanted to throw out a tip about an issue that immediately drove me insane: how to stop seeing my own boosts in my #homefeed.
Nothing in settings that I could find, but fortunately you can click on your own name in the feed (as if you were looking at another user), click on the three dots at the right, and choose "mute boosts".
#settings #boosts -
@Ulrich_the_Elder #HomeFeed can not be currently further filtered, other than by mutes,
...according to my knowledge.

@daveleeFT … for me it’s getting better every day … like in the early days of twitter, we have to be more proactive, engage with people & follow #hashtags - but my #homefeed is quite interesting & I find many interesting people here …
-
@slouchking … Welcome to the #fediverse!
one tip: follow #hashtags of your interest & then the people in that area - this usually quite quickly generates an interesting #homefeed

Having ranted enough at Adobe,
*Now back to our regularly schedule meme. *I have followed enough people and hastags on #mastodon now that my #HomeFeed is a nice comfortable stream of *Continuously Interesting. *If that gets slow, Ill fire up #local.
But not gonna lie, when I peek into #Federated it does sometimes feel like getting hit by a firehose. There's a lot of (active!) people on here posting a lot of #continuouslyinteresting. Still better than #birdsite. #mastodon #twittermigration

2. I lost those I follow in the transfer, but I'm gradually finding some adding them back — I'm following 54 now.
Still, I get a LOT less traffic in my home feed than I did on mstdn.party. Is that simply because I am not follow many (I think I was following about 119 before)? or is there something different about what hits home feed?
Any light you can shed is much appreciated.

I tend to post/boost non-English posts once in a while. If you don't want this noise in your #timeline you can easily subscribe to my English posts/boosts only by:
- Clicking on my profile
- Click on the "three dots" next to the unfollow button
- Select "Change subscribed languages"
- Select the languages you want to see on your #feedAnd you're all set!

I've got to figure out a way to implement my own personal algorithm for my feed. I'm missing so many great posts and conversations that it's hard to keep up with. #algorithm #homefeed

@annaraven I do have it set on slow mode already — I like that I can control when the feed is updated — but I just went out to the store. I'm just back and find 529 new posts ready to be loaded into my home feed
Maybe it's just that I'm following too many people.
-
@annaraven
The problem is that the posts appear faster than I can go through them.So I just read what I can, and I find lots to enjoy in those.
-
I don’t understand why my Home feed is showing me these kind of people.
I don’t follow any of these 3 accounts, and they don’t follow me.
My Home Feed is irrelevant if it keeps looking like this.
I thought Home Feed was meant to only be people I follow? What am I doing wrong?
-
Just refreshed my #HomeFeed and the first 8 posts were all #Twitter RTs. Some people are going through a lot of effort to bridge the gap between Twitter and #Mastodon during this #MastodonMigration.
I appreciate that Mastodon users are sharing good information from Twitter. It’s considerate and ethical that they’re doing it as a retweet to give credit to the original information source.
That said, I’ll be glad to see the #BirdSite eventually wither on the vine until it stops being noteworthy.

CW: How do replies work on YOUR instance?
@McCullohMD may be able to clarify or kick this question over to the #techsupport
OTOH if this reply populates anybody's feed, then that would prove that I am mistaken.
In which case, I will delete the post.
If this post remains visible, that means that this #reply did NOT populate my #homefeed the #localfeed or the #federatedfeed ON THIS INSTANCE.
(Pardon the all caps, required for emphasis.)
