  1. Wenn ich nach einem knappen Tag offline von 683 ungelesenen News im Feedreader begrüßt werde (davon gefühlte 815 über Trump), dann sollte ich vielleicht meine Feedliste ausmisten, ist es nicht?

  2. I created a small and self-contained #RSS / #Atom #feed mixer that runs on #Github action and pages: github.com/IndieWebClubBlr/fee for all your feed mixing needs.

    I worked on a new feat on my blog : a stylesheet for XML content ( ). It was easy in —just a `static/style.xsl` and add `{{- printf "<?xml-stylesheet href=\"/style.xsl\" type=\"text/xsl\"?>" | safeHTML -}}`.

Still working on the theme, might match it to my exisiting burgeonlab.com/guestbook/ style or keep this terminal theme! Kinda cool and much better looking than raw

  4. Dear @timbl,
I kindly ask you to consider talking to the people at #Mozilla to keep #xml documents with human-friendly rendering via #xslt visible in #Firefox.

Not only needs the web decentralisation, but also raw, machine-readable data in human-friendly appearance. #Feeds, #RDF, etc. Dropping #w3c standards and backwards-compatibiity in this regard makes the web an unreliable medium for long-term publishing and archiving of such documents, even more so for small entities with limited resources. Big players have no problem continuously overhauling their archives to meet the viewers' habits du-jour and adapt to fast-moving, volatile practices.

Please say no to this #enshittification.

    Yours,
    @mro

P.S.: I pledge a monthly Euro to such a browser.

  9. #Manipulation 🚫 #BigTech shapes opinions through targeted ads and polarizing content: #opensource #socialmedia empowers #communities.

    #MentalHealth 🧠 #Research shows that #algorithm driven #feeds fuel #anxiety and #addiction: #ActivityPub platforms, like #Mastodon, avoid manipulative engagement tactics.

#Privacy 🔒 Unlike Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, XTwitter, #decentralised #networks don’t harvest your data for profit.

  10. Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 04-16-26

Today marks the 1957th anniversary of the death-by-suicide of the short-reigning Roman Emperor, Otho. I note this because my longest NLJ article, clocking it at more than 18,000 words, is about Otho. Fortunately, I also published some shorter Otho reading. But Otho aside, it is time for today's edition of Pook-Emu Bee links from around the web. 1. Gov. 11. #Answers Instead of #Feeds 🧭 Instead of scrolling endlessly, users ask #AIsystems directly, which will deliver #news, #backgroundinformation and even #videos.

#Content is Becoming #Personalised 🎬 Content is no longer a »one-size-fits-all« approach, but varies according to the individual’s interests.

  12. My #FeedReader tells me that I've read/skimmed over forty-two thousand posts via #feeds this year. Feeds are not dead. #RSS

  13. capyreader.com by @_jocmp is a new and open source #feedreader. It's been in development for a while and now it is good enough that I switched to it from FocusReader's paid version. CapyReader doesn't have some fancy features that FocusReader does, but that's okay, I didn't use them anyway. I miss some features like jumping to a feed from list of entries or sorting #feeds by number of unreads, but that's manageable. Hopefully, CapyReader will get these features and more as it matures. It is going to be my recommended feed reader on #Android from now.

  14. Neues Jahr - neue Feeds:

“[A]n increasing number of people are so used to algorithmically-generated #feeds that they no longer care to have a self-directed #experience that they are in #control of. [I]t feels like large swaths of people have forgotten to exercise their own #agency. That is what I mean by algorithmic #complacency. More and more people don’t seem to know or #care how to view the #world without a #computer #algorithm guiding what they #see.”

  17. Of course #meta is now #restricting politics unless you opt out of the cuts.

Meta — the parent company of #Facebook, #instagram and #Threads — is making good on its promise to tamp #down the amount of #political posts that users see on their #feeds.

#meta said in early February that Instagram and Threads would stop recommending #politicalcontent from accounts that users don't already follow. It said it would roll out the changes "slowly over time," though did not specify when.

  18. Freedom of reach IS freedom of speech

    (10 Dec 22) by Cory Doctorow (@pluralistic)

‘there's another side to this playlistification of #feeds: playlists and other recommendation #algorithms are #chokepoints: they are a way to durably interpose a company between a creator and their audience. Where you have chokepoints, you get #chokepointcapitalism

Read it. It’s informative, full of niftyficated neologisms, well-crafted
