For #AutumnEquinox a short video of me gathering foliage on the farm, then showing the finished #altar for the season, honouring primordial #BirdGoddess + #GreatMother #Māra + #Ragana the Wild One + the Twin Gods + remembering my Mom and Aunt (The Penguin was carved by my brother for my Mom's collection; the Owl was my Aunt's, and they double as Bird Goddess avatars!)

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 21 #WinterSolstice #MidWinter here #MidSummer for those on the currently sunny side of the globe!
In the North we celebrate the beginning of the slow return of #Saule #Sun but don't forget to give #Darkness its due: life, #regeneration begins in the darkness of blood, soil, womb, heart, brain! Darkness is #rest #nest Take time to repose and #reflect and appreciate the long quiet nights.

4- "In honour of the Summer Solstice, the big day for Saule/Sun, we celebrate her collaboration with Great Mother/Mara whose body/Earth and living Waters bring forth Life in such abundance, imbued with Saule's energy.
I wash the wooden outdoor altar bench in preparation and lay an altar with plants, flowers, leaves, pieces of wood and stones, blessing it again once finished, with Water."

More images for Māras or #GreatMotherDay the beginning of #Autumn showing the shift in vegetation from the green of #summer to the gold of #autumn. Doubling for an early #Caturday post, with a neighbour cat sitting on the road allowance beside the acreage (hunting, no doubt, but watching me) #pagan #GoddessCulture #SeasonalRhythms #cats

I'll give a nod to #Perkuns #Latvian God of Thunder, but really I feel the pre-Indo-European #LietusMāte #RainMother doesn't need help from later interlopers 😉 [edit] Typical male gods feel the need to bluster and boast, the old rain goddesses just get on with it 😉 😆 Meanwhile the puddles are growing... #PuddleOfTheDay #pagan #water #rain #life #OldEurope #GoddessCulture

"...may your spirit soar with Saulė on her journeys away and back, may Mārtinš keep your heart safe and warm with the sacred fire of love and kinship (wherever you find or build it!) tucked into the nurturing soil/darkness of Great Mother/Māra!

Watched a few documentaries on YouTube lately about Marija Gimbutas, 20th century folklorist, archaeologist and beyond. Her special interest was the culture of #OldEurope prior to the Indo-European conquest/transformation, in particular the #GoddessCulture some of her work has been vindicated (Kurgan hypothesis) details of the goddess worship harder to prove/disprove, but still very interesting and aspirational for many. So, the #swans and #geese I saw the other day are signs of #BirdGoddess

I don't think of this (or any) primordial Goddess as a literal character, but rather the embodiment of life essence, of the reality of this Earth--life, death, mineral and hydrological cycles, weather, seasons etc.
The symbolism is meant to reinforce *our* connection to -everything! We are not separate from nature, we are part of it.
Here's another version of the altar, less legible text..lol

CW: pagan/animist metaphorical view of nature
Came in and got the humid stickiness showered off now I'm having dinner, #Rain Mother is really pouring it down while Perkuns rattles the house (I'm not convinced that ancient Rain Mother needs the help of the latecomer Indo-European Thunder God, but we'll let his patriarchal ego think he's doing something ) #OldEurope #GoddessCulture #NatureWorship #reverence
