Just discovered this, and after watching the video, I'm really thrilled (I fear I'll need a second life the sort through all the material). This projects brings together so many strands of knowledge I've been interested in for almost all my life:

I'll give a nod to #Perkuns #Latvian God of Thunder, but really I feel the pre-Indo-European #LietusMāte #RainMother doesn't need help from later interlopers 😉 [edit] Typical male gods feel the need to bluster and boast, the old rain goddesses just get on with it 😉 😆 Meanwhile the puddles are growing... #PuddleOfTheDay #pagan #water #rain #life #OldEurope #GoddessCulture

Watched a few documentaries on YouTube lately about Marija Gimbutas, 20th century folklorist, archaeologist and beyond. Her special interest was the culture of #OldEurope prior to the Indo-European conquest/transformation, in particular the #GoddessCulture some of her work has been vindicated (Kurgan hypothesis) details of the goddess worship harder to prove/disprove, but still very interesting and aspirational for many. So, the #swans and #geese I saw the other day are signs of #BirdGoddess

I don't think of this (or any) primordial Goddess as a literal character, but rather the embodiment of life essence, of the reality of this Earth--life, death, mineral and hydrological cycles, weather, seasons etc.
The symbolism is meant to reinforce *our* connection to -everything! We are not separate from nature, we are part of it.
Here's another version of the altar, less legible text..lol

CW: pagan/animist metaphorical view of nature
Came in and got the humid stickiness showered off now I'm having dinner, #Rain Mother is really pouring it down while Perkuns rattles the house (I'm not convinced that ancient Rain Mother needs the help of the latecomer Indo-European Thunder God, but we'll let his patriarchal ego think he's doing something ) #OldEurope #GoddessCulture #NatureWorship #reverence
