  1. I planned to create the pH range animation in Manim, but once you've been holding a tool in your hand for several days, you really don't want to switch to another way of thinking for two animations.
It was probably a bit slower in #Friction2D because of all the 'admin' with renaming and grouping that needs to be done there, while in Manim I'd largely reuse existing code, and all naming happens as I go. But of course, I'd need to render to see what I'm getting ;)

  6. It took longer than expected, but my #hydroponics video about Kratky bottles with 3d-printed parts is ready.
I tried other bottles but these 2l milk jugs are perfect in having wide throats, being stable against winds (I grow plants on an open balcony), and the size is good. They also pack well side-by-side since the bottom is rectangular.
The current batch of seedlings shown in the video is already bottled, mostly, with basil just about to. I'm currently out of empty bottles, and still need to sprout the seeds for the big container too.

All the models are made in FreeCAD, all the animations — in Friction2D. The milk jugs are local :)
    The original inspiration by Hoocho's.

  11. My most recent animation made in #Friction2D with assets made in #FreeCAD. Also my first time using Flipbook feature (it just accepts a list of frames and creates frame-by-frame animation from them).
The original idea was to use whatever animation features FreeCAD has, but if you just need it to rotate, it's much simpler: you just ask a script to rotate a model, while saving pictures with transparent background.
This is a Polifix thread-forming screw by Accu (they provided an STL of the screw itself), and I simulate the thread-forming process, and temperature raise happening in the process.

  16. Graphics of this tv doc were made by me in @friction (and blender for one anim)

a really good tv documentary about chilian immigration to France during the 70s (after pinochet's coup), through the point of view of these migrants (some of them are quilapayun music band )

this is a french documentary, and you'll have to connect with a free account to watch it (french public tv)

  24. I finally learned what the 'lerp' function does in #Blender (and python generally) and realized that it's a much more elegant way to achieve something I've been doing in #AfterEffects for a long time. Could I have just used lerp in AE also???
Next it's time to find the valueAtTime function equivalent. If you are a #MotionGraphics person and you don't use these (or scripting in general), I HIGHLY recommend learning them as they are now an indispensable part of how I create animations.
    ...
now I'm wondering, can I use the same approach in #friction2d?

  33. So for the past hour I've been working in Friction on an overlay card to use on my secondary channel to show what music I'm playing. I COULD'VE just used the overlay I made in Natron for my main channel's timelapses, but I wanted something unique for my other channel, and also the white/purple/pink colour scheme better fits my main channel as that is the styling I'm going for.

I wish there was a way to smooth keyframes instead of them being "linear", but I haven't found out how from the documentation yet... Regardless I'm relatively happy on how the entry animation (and how the card itself) has turned out. Still need to do the exit sequence, but that'll just be the entry in reverse (like the overlay I've done for my main channel)! :akko_excited:

  38. I was reminded that #enve had (well, has) brushes, and, more importantly, stroke width, pressure, and a few other dynamics.
Can we have those back, @friction ? I don't care much about brushes themselves, just about pointy and possibly translucent heads and tails on shapes that can be used with Sub-path, so, strokes.
Made in enve, the same arrow can be made in Friction apart from the pointy line end.

  43. One of the animations I was working on the last week, is ready to be shown :) It's a demonstration of polarising of light, made for this video by Lost in Tech:
    youtu.be/yN09iY9OXlc
I used #friction2d for animation, #FreeCAD for modelling of filters and arrows, and turning them to the correct angle, and #Inkscape for vectorising of screenshots of said models at said angles (that's because I can't a) draw, b) in perspective).
The torch is made by AI, and also vectorised and polished in Inkscape, because see above, I can't draw.
I like making animations for educational and edutainment channels, so if you fit this profile and would like some animations, let me know :) Bonus points if I'm your subscriber already.
