Been trying 2d svg/vector animation on Linux recently. Have tried Synfig and Friction. Weird pros and cons. Friction (crap name, try searching with a name like that...) is winning out in the ease of use from Inkscape dept. Synfig feels more complete, but... it's deeply weird. Like you can't do obvious stuff weird. Like vim is text weird for me.

Anyway. So far so amazing! Linux graphics is a lot of fun.

I had been handling these as four separate video textures, but it's just too confusing to manage, especially since they really need to be synchronized.

Kdenlive to the rescue: I just used the transform effect to assemble them into a single video texture, and then adjust all the textures to read from this. Synchronization is then just set up in this video file, making the Blender part much less hassle.

These have been through a lot. The two larger screens were animated by Timothee Giet. Then I created the two touchpanel displays using Inkscape and ffmpeg. And I fixed the timing and framerate on them using Kdenlive earlier. Now I'm taking the PNG streams and reassembling them to get them synced properly.

Have been lost in editing and animation for the last week. More about #videoEditing later but what's up with #LinuxAnimation scene? I've spent long weeks learning #Synfig, which is more like FreeCAD ('do it exactly like that, or else!'), then easily switched to #Enve after a couple of tutorials, only it's abandoned. Then Glaxnimate is horrible (sorry not sorry) but integrated into video editors somehow? There is also Wick but it's aimed at coders more, I already have manim for that ;)

Right now I'm doing some research for a feature request I'm writing for #synfig #synfigstudio

I want to request that they rename Splines to Paths. After doing research into reasons why I suddenly got thinking: what's the difference between splines, curves, and paths? Are splines and curves types of paths? Can a path only be a straight line? If anyone can explain and point to resources that'd be great.

I want to make a strong case and not just "you should do it 'cause other software does"

hey guys, I've been working on something off and on in synfig here for a while and I'm finding my biggest problem is that synfig runs kinda slow! anyone out there who's pretty smart with synfig and got any tips for helping it move a little faster in general?

I'm using it on windows 10 for what it's worth, synfig version 1.2.1
