I'm trying to figure out, intuitively, why Anne Bunny is so broken. Her harpoon lets you use one item of your choice twice (sometimes you can get 2 or 3 items twice). The default claw usually gets 2 or 3 items but size influences that. So, sure, the default claw is worse because one rare and/or upgraded item multiple times beats a wider variety of items.
But the magnet claw should still be significantly better. It attracts all metal items in a radius. With even a single magnet strength upgrade, you're regularly getting 5+ items including 2 or more big ones that can usually only be reliably pulled on their own.
But the synergies and scaling should favor the magnet. +X damage per hit is the easiest buff to get in the game with tons of different effects causing it. There are also buffs that give armor, self-heal, inflict poison, or generate currency per hit. By contrast, there's no reward for overkill. Two big hits should, by all accounts, be worse than a slew of little ones.
I understand why the late game favors Anne. After a certain point, no amount of damage or shield matters. You have to run a dodge/reflect build for defense. She's just better at getting more stacks of those without filling your machine with a multiple mirrors and brass knuckles. But before that point, Scrappy should be better.
I wonder what I'm missing.

I wonder what they even could add to #DungeonClawler to make more very late game builds viable.
Right now I think dodge/reflect is the only one that can go infinite. Both Chief Bunner exponential block with Anne paws and Bernie paw to fuel golden daggers are good but do eventually fall off.
Although, I suppose it isn't really a priority. There's not a ton of reason to make content for stuff so few players will see. -

#DungeonClawler just got an update and it really shows off some of the potential that was teased before. It's kinda like Slay the Spire but combat is resolved via drawing stuff from a claw machine. The new updates add new characters with different starting abilities and items that synergize with them.
Scrappy is the character that I think shows off the potential depth of the game. His second claw is always guaranteed to be a big magnet and he gains 5 strength whenever he draws 5 metal items at the same time. It really changes your build because some of the best items previously were ones that centered around drawing them alone. But, more interestingly, he shows off how stuff can interact when they're in the machine. For example, RCE's run with Scrappy had a Hand of Midas which turned fluff to gold and a small magnet. Those gold coins aren't as compressible as the fluff so it actually does become a bit of an impediment to picking up stuff you want but the coins are magnetic so they can get sucked in on the sides more easily. The small magnet causes metal items to cluster around it in the machine and sometimes you can grab a few of those and it drags the rest along but the added weight can cause you to drop parts more easily.
It's just so cool to see a physics engine used in gameplay in such an unusual way instead of merely calculating ballistics arcs or enemy hit boxes. -
