  1. Time again to up my computing game - installing #Windows for Workgroups 3.11, it's the future! #dontcopythatfloppy 💾

  2. I found this video on my computer of a anti piracy campaign from 1992 and decided to run it through my video synthesiser. Its slogan "Don't copy that floppy" warned that if piracy continues creative industries will fail.

Fast forward to 2025 and tech bros are being given free reign to steal from creators to feed their AI slop machines and are being hailed as innovators. Clearly it's only stealing if we do it.

Might go copy me a floppy or two.

Circa 1982, junior high: we'd bring our floppies in for trade. We used the single-hole punch method to double-side our disks. Cool kids had a hardened case for their floppies.

We were #Apple ][ people. We were, after all, students at Cupertino Junior High School.

  5. #Floppy 💾 disks, write blocker woes, pesky Windows behaviour: this blog post on my (occasionally somewhat hellish) journey trying to write yet another workflow tool for imaging portable media has it all #dontcopythatfloppy:

  6. For the #digipres #digitalForensics crowd - a few years ago I published a workflow description for imaging 3.5" #floppies, which included a Tableau USB write blocker.

Turns out this device does in fact not work well with USB floppy drives (I have a confirmation on this from the manufacturer). This can result in faulty or incomplete captures. More details in the updated workflow description:

This probably affects other manufacturers as well.
