  12. Out of all the Amiga tools out there, for me, the most useful of them all, is - without a doubt - DirectoryOpus v4.16. I would not survive without it!

  13. I am checking out a few Amiga disk images and I gotta admit: This one had me confused for a bit.

As shown in the attached screenshot of DirectoryOpus, I had found a savegame with a file date "older" than the game it originated from. At first, I thought this to be very unusual. Then I remembered: Back in the day, Amigas did not usually have a real-time clock with a battery backup, so every time you booted up the system, the clock would be reset to a fixed date and time!

I'm feeling kinda stupid right now.

  15. BTW, Directory Opus have an account on Bluesky. They don't seem to have a Mastodon/fedi account linked on their site, but eh. Bluesky is good enough for me. :3

  16. Giving Directory Opus a go on my Windows install. I used Directory Opus years ago when I was at university (yes I'm aware it was an Amiga tool as well) but I wasn't really worried about that until recently.

I don't wanna lose the split view I was using from KDE's Dolphin and from first impressions, this does the job and then some.

  17. @platymew bizarrely I've been mostly anchored to Win10 because of my replacement file manager!

I haven't found anything in Linux that comes close to it's everything in one place solution. It's more of a File IDE than a file Explorer.

I could lash the equivalent functionality together with multiple apps/tools (in the UNIX way) but that will end up quite a bit more cumbersome.

    is a powerful addiction!
    😂

  18. @johnoestmannmusic if you have to use #Windows for gaming because your favorite game's anti cheat requires it, then you can replace Windows #FileExplorer with a third party program like #Files which is an open source option, or #DirectoryOpus which is a paid option. Directory Opus requires a one time payment, but you only get a year's worth of feature updates, security updates are limitless and free.

  19. I'm finding it incredibly ironic that the biggest app/workflow friction point I've found is my alternative file manager/explorer that originated on the Amiga 😂

users will know exactly what I mean 😃

  20. Darn you Directory Opus. Of course I'll update to lucky version 13. You're the crack of Windows file managers! How can I not?😂

  21. Directory Opus 13

  25. @PHolder

I second this. I'm a long time #Linux user, but have occasionally had to use MS Windows at work (luckily, only for a few years total).

I purchased #DirectoryOpus with my own money because no other file manager on the MS Windows platform was as good.

Honestly, Directory Opus is probably the only proprietary software that I wish had a Linux version.
