Forty years ago today, the Commodore Amiga 1000 was released to the world. With its unprecedented graphics & sound capabilities, powerful 16-bit CPU and custom chipset, and UNIX-like multitasking OS, the Amiga was a truly revolutionary system for its time. And, many are still in use to this day, with the platform seeing new software and hardware development from month to month.

I presently have three, myself. :-)

I am checking out a few Amiga disk images and I gotta admit: This one had me confused for a bit.

As shown in the attached screenshot of DirectoryOpus, I had found a savegame with a file date "older" than the game it originated from. At first, I thought this to be very unusual. Then I remembered: Back in the day, Amigas did not usually have a real-time clock with a battery backup, so every time you booted up the system, the clock would be reset to a fixed date and time!

I'm feeling kinda stupid right now.

All of a sudden I am looking for a 68030 accelerator for the Amiga 2000. There are a few modern ones in different states of readiness, it seems.

Can anyone point me to something solid? (Older would be fine - but I see none on offer in the regular places.)

Update: Has anyone tried the new Dicke Olga board? It has a disable switch which I require.

Sometime after I got the Aegis Sonix music sequencer, my Amiga 2000 also got upgraded with the Sound Master - an external audio digitizer that was able to record in 8 bit and 22 kHz, quite a feat for a computer that ran on an 8 mHz CPU! The Aegis Audiomaster sample editor was somewhat basic, but I had a lot of fun with it and created some nice sounds and loops with it. #retrocomputing #vintage #vintagecomputer #commodore #amiga #workbench #amigados #16bit #sonix #aegis #sampler #soundmaster

My favourite software on the Amiga was perhaps Aegis Sonix, a surprisingly capable combination of sequencer, score editor, sampler and synthesizer. Since I started playing piano right around the time I got my Amiga, it was perfect for learning to read and write musical score. When I got my first keyboard sometime later, I also had a MIDI interface from Kawai that worked with Sonix!
