  1. Happy (delayed) Birthday Linux! 35 and counting.

Thanks for letting me in control!
And, err, I feel some urgency to look at myself, older than 35 and counting.

    My digital journey:
    - mid 80's (childhood): my first PC, the awesome #ZXSpectrum 128K! self learning #BASIC, dreaming everything could be done with a computer. Playing around with my friend's #Commodore64K as well. - 1999
    - 1991: #Linux is born! ... and I have no idea...
    - early 90's (teenagehood): saved money for a couple of years or so, and bought the #Amiga500 expanded to 1M. #AmigaBASIC and #AmigaDOS; #Workbench1.3 is my place. Learning some #DOS, #Pascal and the almighty #C in high school.
    - late 90's (dropped the university), bouncing from a short job to another. I could not afford a new computer, but I built one using scraps from other people. Late adoption of early MS Windows (95 to XP). I bought a PC magazine which included a CD with a full copy of #BorlandC++: BOOM! You know, I had no CD-ROM drive, but these are details I worked around. My unconscious feeling "Code is power, code is control" starts growing fast, but I feel trapped by licenses and lock-ins.
    - 2000's: my first Linux discoveries #mandrakelinux / #knoppix live CD. That was sooooo cool, but I could not release myself from MS tools and app. #lock-in
    - 2009: completely switched to #linux (Thanks #Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 9.04) and never had a personal non-linux PC ever since - but I have to deal with them at work 🙁. I also bought a 512MB-RAM Atom Netbook that's still alive, running on #debian 12.

    - 2012: my first smartphone (Android): I think I did not know at that time Linux was running under the hood. Today I know it's not the same thing anyway.
    - 2014: after a five years learning curve (barely no free time, you're supposed to be a dad, lately. And work all day long, of course!) I was able to port, test and publish my comfort code ❤ (#APT package)
    - 2024:
    - farewell Ubuntu; hopped to #Debian to give some fresh air to my values and needs. APT fits me better than Snaps and Flatpaks . I know I could do better (#InitSystem, #displaymanager, etc.), but Iet's try to get to some kind ethics/pragmatism trade-off 😀
    - so long, GMS. Hopped to #eos on my smartphone.

    ---- TODAY ----
War is across the globe. All of the areas are building wall, setting up (or trying to) domestic infrastructures before bombs drop in their houses. Bragging about sovereignty (also digital). An Italian privacy-focused FOSS infrastructure is enlisted as terrorist.
The Earth is warmer, hearts are colder.
    The sky is still blue.

---- WISHLIST and GOALS ---- unsorted
    - Be a good person
    - Give back and give away to the world
    - Get on stage again and do that regularly
    - A pure-Linux daily driver smartphone
    printf("CTRL+C to break.\n"; while(alive){ ROCK(); DANCE(); breath(); love(); CODE(); CODE(); CODE();}
    - My son embracing #FOSS
    - Be a better person

  7. All issues resolved. The 40MHz 68030 accelerator is installed and working in the A2000.

Here's a victory video of Black Lotus' 2019 OCS/ECS Amiga scenedemo 'Eon'. I am unsure if anyone will get the irony of this video, but the spark of that irony is what motivated this CPU upgrade from the Commodore 68020 board I was running before.

  12. Cracked open the Amiga 2000 and am moving from a 14MHz 68020 to a 40MHz 68030, and increasing FAST RAM in both 16-bit Zorro II space and 32-bit extended space.

The "new" accelerator is a GVP G-Force 030 (Impact A2000-030 Combo Series II) with 8MB 32-bit FAST RAM and 68882 FPU.

This board has a jumper allowing it to be fully disabled, which I will bring out to a toggle switch (for cycle-exact 68000 scenedemos).

  17. 😢🕹️ Oh no, #AmigaDOS developer Dr. Tim King has logged out for the last time. While he might be running a preemptive #multitasking system in the afterlife, we here on Earth are left to wonder why our modern devices still can't do what his #OS did in 1984. Let's hope his next venture beyond the mortal coil isn't written in BCPL! 🖥️👻

  27. Amiga people: Do any of the new accelerators that work with the Amiga 2000 allow fallback to the original 68000 by way of a PHYSICAL SWITCH or jumper?

I want an accelerator that can be disabled (without using soft-menus to control the state) so that the Amiga is able to fall back to its 100% exact original 68000 state, which some demos require to run properly, due to cycle-precise coding.

I have an A2620 68020 accelerator in my NTSC A2000, but it does not have a physical switch (just a soft menu) and the state gets lost when I juggle that soft menu and the need to also use Degrader to reboot into PAL mode.

Apparently the A2620 can be modified to add a switch, but it's beyond my abilities.

    Many thanks.
