AmigaOS 4: open source replacement kernel with multicore support in the works
Former OS4 developer Andrea ‘afxgroup’ Palmatè apparently unveiled a new kernel for AmigaOS 4 at Pianeta Amiga. The kernel is intended to replace ExecSG, the kernel developed by Thomas Frieden 25 years ago for AmigaOS 4, which is now owned by Trevor Dickinson. The new kernel is currently running on the Sam460ex and the X5000; it offers support for multiple processor cores.

Scenery Animator sigue la estela de LightwaveRTG con la nueva versión 4.03 RTG de Tolkien y Kikems.
Scenery Animator 4.0, el conocido programa de creación y renderizado de paisajes desarrollado originalmente por Natural Graphics en 1993, está a punto de recibir una importante actualización. Bajo el nombre de Scenery Animator 4.03 RTG, Kikems y Tolkien están trabajando en una nueva versión que lleva el programa a sistemas RTG e incorpora numerosas mejoras y funciones, adaptándolo a formatos y estándares actuales sin perder la esencia del original.
El proyecto lleva Scenery Animator a pantallas RTG y a resoluciones modernas, incluyendo Full HD y hasta 2560×1440, además de ampliar el límite de renderizado hasta 4096 píxeles de ancho, permitiendo trabajar con imágenes de hasta 2K y 4K. También se incorporan nuevos formatos de imagen y animación como PNG, JPEG, TGA, BMP y AVI MJPEG.
Una de las novedades más interesantes es la posibilidad de exportar los terrenos creados en Scenery Animator a formatos 3D compatibles con otras aplicaciones, incluyendo LightWave mediante LWO, Imagine mediante IOB y el estándar OBJ, acompañados de sus correspondientes texturas. También es posible exportar mapas de elevación para continuar trabajando con ellos en programas externos.
El apartado de importación también ha sido actualizado para adaptarse a formatos utilizados actualmente en el tratamiento de terrenos. Scenery Animator 4.03 RTG permitirá importar mapas de elevación y datos de topografía procedentes de SRTM, ESRI ASCII Grid, Terragen y GeoTIFF, además de imágenes de altura en formatos como PNG e IFF.
El visor 3D incorpora diferentes niveles de detalle para poder previsualizar el terreno con distintas densidades de malla, mientras que el render añade nuevas posibilidades como una sencilla bruma atmosférica y antialiasing. La previsualización en color del terreno también ha sido mejorada.
En el desarrollo, el jefe emérito de AmigaWave, Kikems, se encarga principalmente de la parte 68k y AmigaOS 4, y Tolkien del mítico grupo demoscener «Goblins«, se ocupa especialmente de la adaptación a MorphOS. Muchas ideas y funciones del proyecto proceden del trabajo realizado anteriormente por Tolkien en LightWaveRTG. También ha participado activamente en el proyecto Claudia.
La versión definitiva todavía no está completamente cerrada, ya que Kikems y Tolkien se encuentran ultimando los últimos retoques. Los enlaces correspondientes para su descarga se facilitarán en cuanto estén disponibles, algo que está previsto que ocurra en breve.
Por cierto, si lo probáis y algo falla nos dice kikems que «por mucho que yo haga, el que destapó la caja de Pandora es Tolkien, ante la duda, la culpa es siempre de Tolkien».
Fuera coñas, como adelanto, se puede ver una más que recomendable explicación y demostración de Scenery Animator 4.03 RTG en el programa 444 de AmigaWave.

Paweł Nowak has released version 1.2.2 of both his web browser "Amelinium" and his email client Emalinium (POP3, IMAP and SMTP), which are now available not only for AmigaOS 3 but, for the first time, as separate applications for AmigaOS 4 and AROS as well. Assets from GitHub pages can now be displayed correctly and thus downloaded.
