  2. 😂 Oh wow, someone's dusting off the ol' fossilized Pascal tutorial like it's a sacred text from the Stone Age! Because nothing screams cutting-edge tech in 2025 quite like Motorola 68000 assembly language! 🤔📜

  3. The Calypsi collection of compilers and assemblers, which can be used to generate code for various retro platforms under Windows, Linux and Mac OS, has been updated to version 5.13 and now includes a debug macro, among other features and bug fixes.

  4. To anyone who programs for the Motorola 68000, what is your favorite cross-assembler that works well on a Linux host pc?

  5. Of course I did not find what I was searching for, but I did find some nice ceramic #motorola68000

  6. "Calypsi" is a collection of compilers and assemblers that run under Windows, Linux and macOS and can generate code for various retro platforms - 6502 and 68000 processors are supported, among others. Although the project is hosted on Github, the source code is not freely available and use of the tools is only permitted for private purposes. Changes in version 5.12:

  7. The YouTube channel Modern Vintage Gamer explores the history of the legendary 68k processor in the video documentary "Motorola 68000 - The CPU ahead of its time". Introduced in 1979, the chip competed with Intel's 8086 and quickly established itself as a powerful and versatile CPU.

  8. So, out of the blue, my wife @eugenialoli asked me to teach her some assembly. Maybe she's tired of hearing me rant about those different processors and machines and all their unabstracted defects.

I'm thinking, as a starter, #Motorola68000 on #AtariST (because I'm familiar with that and it's reasonably straightforward), interrupts disabled, monochrome framebuffer at a fixed address.

  9. Here's an #introduction

I'm a player of computer and console games, I'm also a demo coder, and I'm trying to blend the two into creating games for old hardware. I'm both experienced and newbie, depending on perspective.

I tend to write assembly on top of bare-metal hardware. #Motorola68000 for #AtariST, #Z80 for #Amstrad and #ZXSpectrum, hopefully more to come (I'm accepting suggestions).

  10. This was really cool! Dude made a video about the #Motorola68000 CPU and how it was the dominant CPU of gaming in the 80's and early 90's in the arcade and later in consoles. #retrogaming #68000 #motorola youtube.com/watch?v=njGWWg69B4

  11. "The Cube is A Lie" 256 bytes intro (including 32b program header) for 1985 shown at

Demonstration of an iterative way to plot a rotating wireframe cube showing two faces at most without initial data by exploiting the square <> hexagon transition of the HAKMEM 149 algorithm.

  12. Sean Haas of @adventofcomputing has a fascinating episode out about #IDRIS, a reimplementation of #UNIX for a variety of early personal computers with #Intel8086, #Motorola68000 CPUs as well as #DEC #PDP11. Bizarrely, the OS seems mostly lost.

A version of IDRIS that starts from #DOS is available on GitHub, though!

  13. Today is Motorola's birthday. Motorola doesn't make CPUs anymore, but its CPUs powered many great retro computers, and they had many more CPUs in their line than just the 68000 and the PowerPC. #retrocomputing #motorola #Motorola68000 dfarq.homeip.net/motorola-born

  15. I love this website:

It is REALLY good for #assembly #motorola68000 beginners. I should probably download it all just in case.

  16. Back at my #motorola68000 meanderings... Now I'll try to rewrite the logo scrolling routine (I was scrolling the whole width of the screen, just because, now I'm only scrolling the part needed). I'm obviously writing to the wrong plane, at the wrong y position, from a wrong memory location. That's 2 easy fixes and 1 that requires investigation. More problems will probably appear. Investigation will take place after the swimming pool party. :)

  17. TFW you try to write an easing function ni asm for the first time and it just works at 1st attempt!

That being said the slowing down is still a bit abrupt... The logo moves 16px/frame at the beginning, and then the speed is halved every frame for the stop.
