#OTD Robert John Thornton, English #Doctor, #Botanist & #Writer, died.He dedicated his #Book, The Temple of #Flora, to his idol Carl #Linnaeus.
Robert planned to feature 70 exotic #Plants in their habitats, but he ran out of money. Even unfinished w/ 28 plants, the work is stunning.The most famous engraving is the night-blooming #Cereus. The #Bloom takes up most of the scene w/ the ruins of a castle in the background. The #Flower is known as "The Queen of the Night."
