  2. A very small and short-term study found that aerobic exercise during a severe calorie deficit preserved muscle function, increasing mitochondrial protein synthesis in muscle tissue. Myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic protein synthesis was unchanged. Muscle collagen decreased, producing a more 'youthful' muscle composition.

  4. One of the things people often misunderstand about #calorierestriction , which is literally the only way to lose #weight is that you also have to change the #foods you DO eat to be much more nutrient dense/satiating. If you don't calorie restriction will utterly fail. However how people view #food hits the same areas of the #brain as they do deeply held #religious beliefs, and you literally have to change you food #religion which causes emotional discomfort, distress and is difficult for many to do. Add to the fact that to have these foods requires cooking skills and meal prep unless you want to pay through the nose or have unenjoyable food and you have to have a massive amount of time and energy to shift over to a better diet in general. It requires more work and mental energy. Ultra-processed foods are convenient and take no effort which is why they are so desired by the body, especially when lacking nutrients caused by calorie restrictions without replacing the food with nutrient dense foods to make up for it. This is the only real time that a multivitamin is at all useful unless the doctor says otherwise for your specific condition.
There is a reason why weight is unconsciously associated with wealth as they have this time energy and leisure to either buy healthier food or make it, making weight often a class based stigma. Food stamps for all would help this out so much(I never ate healthier than when I was on food stamps for a few months after losing my job), and taxing ultraprocessed foods/regulating the addictiveness of those foods to subsidize healthier foods would help so much. Until then we are going to have to slog along with the system we have and do you very best to not fat-shame(this actually makes them less likely to be able to lose weight thanks to depression and feelings of isolation) and have compassion for anyone above the "healthy" weight. If you haven't changed your food religion, the weight will just come right back. Weight issues are a biological, psychological, sociological and corporate problem, and we have to tackle all four before we can truly fight this.
  5. Researchers have found that #dietary changes in yeast can lead to #healthy #aging without #calorierestriction. By switching the yeast’s diet from glucose to galactose at an early age, the team was able to delay cellular aging and improve overall health, suggesting that dietary adjustments, rather than caloric restriction, could promote #longevity and #wellness in later life.
