Yesterday night we did a Bike Party ride that was beach party themed, and we actually stopped to dance and play in the water at the beach. A couple drivers tried to ruin our fun, but we were all safe. Advantages of living within a 10 minute bike ride of the ocean. #BikeTooter #bikeHFX #Halifax

Did some recon at the Big Dartmouth Mall for #bikehfx parking today. Pretty dismal, BUT: wavy racks at the Shoppers and Winners entrances, a roomy triangles-suspended-from-a-bar rack across from the transit terminal, and a single(!) O-ring at Old Navy. Surprisingly, no bike rack at Decathlon!

Today I had to lift my bike into a snowbank to park, and bike in traffic next to the inconsistently cleared protected bike lanes, which had windrows across the entrances, and somtimes a windrow right in the middle. Most drivers were great, only 1 illegally close passed me. Of course the roads have been perfectly cleared for over 24h now. They FINALLY got to the sidewalks and bus stops 12h ago. But nobody bikes in winter, so why bother making sure it's safe to do so. #BikeHFX #Halifax #BikeTooter

As I biked past a bus stop with my bakfiets to get groceries, I got applause!
I got to ride my e-brompton after riding only my bakfiets for a long time, and I had forgotten how fun it is to ride a zippy little bike
After using my brompton as a shopping cart, then unfolding it to ride home, a lady came up and said it was the neatest thing and we had a nice conversation. #BikeHFX #brompton #BikeTooter #Halifax

Today is the 8 year anniversary of our electric bakfiets. This is the bike that empowered us to go car free. We've rode it in 3 different cities, on opposite sides of the country. We're still using the same homemade box we built 8 years ago. It no longer fits both our kids at the same time, because they're both 8 years bigger, but it still is great for one kid at a time and/or a grocery store/Costco run. #BikeTooter #YEGBike #YYCBike #BikeHFX

I wouldn’t have thought it possible for a politician to be more petty, ill-informed, and divisive regarding cycling than Ontario Premier Doug Ford. And yet the Nova Scotia Premier and Mayor of Halifax are determined to shift the epicentre of car-brained wedge politics to Halifax! Boys and their toys!

I think this is an especially important point for #bikehfx and #halisky to keep in mind, especially in light of the Premier's disingenuous hand-wringing over emergency vehicle access on Morris St.: Protected bike lanes make ALL ROAD USERS safer. That includes our precious, sacred drivers.

I guess the premier of Nova Scotia wants me to repeatedly ride my bike up and down Morris Street, during rush hour every morning, slowly, and taking the lane.
For non-Haligonian background: there are no complete east-west bike routes on the penninsula. This road is wide, flat, and barely used by cars, there are 2 other parallel car routes that are used more, there are 2 schools on this street, west half of the street already has bike lanes on it.
