So, this event has already happened, but wow...! A #MusicRepairCafe would be cool to have! (And I can think of a few musician friends / DJ's who could contribute some know-how and skills!)

Music #RepairCafé

26 Sept 2026, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

5 Cabbage Tree Swamp Drive, Sandringham, Auckland 1351, New Zealand

"Repair Café Aotearoa NZ and Holding Space Aotearoa have banded together to bring you our 4th ‘Music Repair Cafe’, Tune-Up for Your Instruments - as part of #RepairFestivalAotearoa 2026

Our goal is to empower you to care for your instruments, provide practical assistance where possible, and foster a culture of repair and sustainability within our music community. Plus enjoy a cuppa with live music from #Songwriters4ClimateAction and more.

Our volunteers can tackle small repairs and on-the-spot adjustments including things like:

- Restringing instruments (you must supply your own strings or can purchase some if available)
- Cable testing & repairs
- Soldering loose connections
- Woodwind & Brass Instrument check ups
- Orchestral string instrument check ups
- Repairing Guitar Straps & bags

We also offer advice on

- Instrument Cleaning & Maintenance
- Recycling wires, batteries, strings.

Important Information:
Please note that this Repair Café caters only to musical gears.

While our volunteers will do their best to assist you with your instrument repairs, please understand that we cannot guarantee that all items can be fully repaired during the event. The complexity of some repairs may require more time, parts, specialised tools, or professional attention. If we can’t fix it, we offer Instrument Assessment or advice on where to take it."

"What do you get when, in 2026, you tell a 19-year-old underpaid graphic artist to 3D-render you a scene for a cheap product listing, in which a Walkman-type portable cassette player is shown alongside another cassette standing on end, and the artist is too young to have ever actually seen a cassette, much less used one?"

with all the shit happening in real life, id rather forget and spend my time drinking ice coffee and lying in bed and rotting away

anyway unrelated, how the fuck do you find #audioequipment without breaking the bank?

@TheVinylApe Man, the whole idea of purging - I've been burned by purge regret, so I seldom do it anymore.

Your post also has me musing on how this hobby seems heavily male - am I mistaken? I find this baffling. It's music, man - how can loving music be gendered? Or is it the collecting and possessing part? Am I a unicorn?
(And don't even get me started on the gender balance among #AudioEquipment officianados.)

Anyway, cheers to a successful day at it! I look forward to seeing your new treasures in my feed.

Anyone have any experience with bone conduction headphones? I'm an ex audiophile (yeah right) and my current wireless earbuds are pretty great but the charging case battery has broken. I'm open to other ideas but I also sort of like the idea of open phones that don't leak.

I can’t believe how inexpensive the Digidesign or AVID PRE units can be scooped up these days. 8 channels of great, clean, gain recallable and controlable from within Pro Tools for … ~$250? Yes, please!

I have a ‘blue face’ one already, and a ‘gray face’ one heading my way. I suspect they are litterally identical, but I’ll be cracking them open to compare.

Looking for recommendations for a microphone that will let me hold Zoom meetings while working in cafés without the other participants struggling to hear me?

Also considering using Krisp, but I'm not sure if it's as good as it seems?
