I signed up for the #AppleCare One thing - as I’ve lots of Apple stuff - but my daughter’s MacBook Air kept getting removed. I kept adding it. It would get removed.

Guess when the screen got broken? Yeah when it was removed. It costs > $500 to get the screen repaired. It’s probably the first time AppleCare has let me down.

Las tres rutas de un producto devuelto

Apple tiene una logística circular diseñada para recuperar el valor de cada componente y mantener sus estándares de calidad.

1. El programa «Certified Refurbished» (Reacondicionados)

Es el destino más común para productos con poco uso o defectos menores:

• Limpieza y Reemplazo: Apple reemplaza la batería y la carcasa exterior en todos los dispositivos reacondicionados.
• Pruebas Rigurosas: Cada unidad se somete a las mismas pruebas de funcionalidad que un producto nuevo.
• Garantía Completa: Se venden en una caja blanca especial con un año de garantía oficial. Esto permite a Apple recuperar parte de la inversión y ofrecer precios más bajos (generalmente un 15% de descuento).
• Acceso a tienda en línea de Refurbished.

2. Inventario de Reemplazo (AppleCare)

Muchos productos devueltos que pasan las pruebas de calidad, pero no se destinan a la venta, se convierten en unidades de reemplazo. Cuando llevas un teléfono roto a la Apple Store y te entregan uno «nuevo» bajo la garantía de AppleCare, es muy probable que sea un dispositivo ensamblado con componentes recuperados y certificados de devoluciones previas.

3. Desmantelamiento y Reciclaje (Daisy el Robot)

Si un producto tiene daños estructurales graves o es un modelo antiguo:

• Daisy: El robot especializado de Apple puede desmantelar hasta 200 iPhones por hora.
• Recuperación de Materiales: Se extraen minerales valiosos como cobalto, litio, oro y tierras raras para reintroducirlos en la cadena de suministro de nuevos productos.
• Meta Ambiental: Apple aspira a que para 2030 todos sus productos se fabriquen con materiales 100% reciclados.

¿Sabías qué?

Apple nunca mezcla unidades devueltas con el stock de unidades nuevas selladas de fábrica. Una vez que el sello de la caja se rompe, el número de serie se marca en su base de datos y el dispositivo pierde su estatus de «nuevo» para siempre, garantizando que el comprador de una unidad full-price siempre reciba un producto virgen.

I just calculated that from 2022 until today I've paid Apple over 2200 USD 😝 for an Apple One Premier subscription, mainly just to have Apple Music and 2 TB of iCloud (and I'm only actually using about 900 GB).

And that's just a "background" subscription, not counting everything else I pay for (like YouTube Premium, AppleCare+, etc.).
