  10. Google Play System Update (May 2026) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On June 3rd, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the May 1st, 2026 version. This update weighs around 98 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

    1. Go to your device’s settings
    2. Open the security settings
    3. Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
    4. If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:

Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see May 1st, 2026 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the June patch of 2026!

  12. One UI 9.0 Beta expands to India and Poland, Beta 2 now live!

Earlier this month, the One UI 9.0 beta program has started for users with the Galaxy S26 series devices in the following countries:

    • Korea
    • United States
    • United Kingdom
    • Germany

This version of One UI 9.0 provided several features, such as the Masking Tape feature in Samsung Notes and the enhanced quick panel that allows you to take it to the next level in your style with even more customization options.

May 26th has come, and One UI 9.0 Beta 2 is now available for those who have already joined the beta program with the Galaxy S26 in the above countries mentioned. Alongside that, India and Poland can now finally get their first taste of One UI 9.0 in the Galaxy S26 with the first beta on May 26th. This is what Samsung promised in the Korean version of the announcement in Samsung Newsroom.

The second beta version of One UI 9.0 is now available to fix some bugs and to incorporate general improvements across the whole operating system based on user feedback and internal evaluation, according to Tarun Vats.

One UI 9.0 Beta 2 is available under build ZZEQ, with the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra devices that joined the beta program receiving it. The following changes were made:

    • Bugs that have been fixed
      • GPUWatch interruption popup issue fixed
      • Improved the non-functioning issue in the routine app
      • Improved status bar display error

This update also brings the June 2026 security patch, which fixes many vulnerabilities that were discovered in different system components since the beginning of this month. Samsung did not mention the details of those vulnerabilities that were fixed in June 2026 security patch, though.

Meanwhile, One UI 8.5’s stable rollout is still ongoing for more devices, with the Galaxy S22, the Z Fold/Flip4, and the Galaxy Tab S8 being the last flagship devices eligible for this platform update, essentially setting the end of the line for future software upgrades. Those devices are, however, expected to receive the May 2026 security patch before One UI 8.5 as per the quarterly rollout schedule.

    1. Open Settings, and navigate to System Update
    2. Tap on Check for Updates

      • Fixed an error where the lock screen clock font does not change in LockStar installation status
      • Improved delay issue when deleting messages in bulk
      • Improved issue where the lock screen clock gradually moves down
      • Improved game booster entry point setting error

To update your Galaxy to One UI 9.0 Beta 2, first make sure that you are already in the beta program. Then, follow these steps:

    1. Open Settings, and navigate to System Update
    2. Tap on Check for Updates
    3. Press Download and Install
    4. Wait until the download and the installation is complete, then press Reboot Now
    5. Wait until the phone reboots successfully

Make sure that you’re connected to a stable and fast Wi-Fi network to avoid high mobile data fees. Never interrupt the update in any way, or problems could occur later. Make sure that you apply all available updates once you update your phone for maximum stability. An update might take 10 to 20 minutes to apply, depending on the device and the type of the update being applied.

For India and Poland, you’ll have to follow the steps outlined in this article to join the beta program. Then, check for updates on your phone. You should see something like this:

Press Update, wait for the update to install, then reboot your phone. You should be taken to the beta version of One UI 9.0.

We encourage you to please report all bugs found to the Beta program community so that Samsung will analyze your feedback and implement fixes and/or improvements based on them.

  14. Current progress of Good Lock is now available for One UI 9.0

Since the beta program of One UI 9.0 started, the Good Lock team has shared an initial progress announcement (thanks, Sammy Fans) for the next version of One UI expected to be released in the second half of this year. Good Lock is a set of modules that modify your phone’s appearance and behavior in different areas, including the lock screen (LockStar), the home screen (Home Up), and much more.

Today, Samsung has shared the current progress of One UI 9.0 support for Good Lock through the official Samsung Members announcement wall. Here’s the official announcement:

This gives us a hint that the majority of Good Lock modules already support One UI 9.0, such as Sound Assistant and Gallery Assistant, while the remaining modules need to be updated to fully support One UI 9.0, such as QuickStar, LockStar, and Home Up.

The following modules are currently under development, with the expected update to be available during the One UI 9.0 beta program in different times:

    • QuickStar
    • LockStar
    • ClockFace
    • NavStar
    • NotiStar
    • Home Up
    • MultiStar
    • Game Booster+

The above modules were listed as needing an update because they have a deeper integration with the UI framework, along with launcher behavior and UI-level rendering mechanism. Once these modules get updated, they’ll support One UI 9.0 out of the box, unlocking the possibility of customizing your phone to your heart’s content, such as lock screen, home screen, and quick panel customization.

However, the below modules already support One UI 9.0:

    • One Hand Operation+
    • Sound Assistant
    • Keys Cafe
    • Theme Park
    • Wonderland
    • Edge Lighting+
    • Dropship
    • Galaxy To Share
    • Routines+
    • Nice Catch
    • Edge Touch
    • Camera Assistant
    • RegiStar
    • Display Assistant
    • Nice Shot
    • Gallery Assistant

Theme creation and setting (Theme Park), keyboard style customization (Keys Cafe), volume slider configuration (Sound Assistant), and other customizations are already available for those running One UI 9.0 Beta on their Galaxy S26 devices, so there should be no problem when using those modules.

This is common with all new One UI versions where certain Good Lock modules need to be updated before they’re usable in later beta versions of the UI. One UI 9.0 is expected to release in the second half of this year.

  16. One UI 9.0 Beta 1 brings revamped music player style in quick panel

One UI 9.0 is a platform upgrade that updates your phone to Android 17 and brings a small amount of features, as well as other improvements to make your experience more streamlined. The beta program has started this week, and it’s currently available for Galaxy S26 users in the US, the UK, Korea, and Germany, with May 26th being the expected date of when users in India and Poland will be able to try out One UI 9.0 Beta.

While the changelogs have stated various improvements and features added to this version of One UI, it also brought some more modernization of various styles, including the design of the music player in the Quick Panel.

The button styles have changed to have a circular fill around their icons, which makes pressing them easier than before. The waves in the slider have become more colorful and intense than before, and the circular slider thumb has also gained color and glow.

Among other changes in the quick panel are separate brightness bars and volume bars from auto brightness button and volume mode button. The circular buttons’ fill is now filling the entire button instead of a smaller circle, which accounts for modern look, as Alfatürk spotted.

Please note that Samsung might not have opened the Beta program in your country yet, even if your country is eligible for beta testing. In this case, you’ll have to wait for the beta banner.

To join the Beta Program, you must have the latest version of Samsung Members installed. You can get the latest version through either the Galaxy Store or the Play Store. Once done, you should be able to join the program if you have an eligible device.

  19. Galaxy Z Flip7 spotted running One UI 9.0 on Geekbench

Samsung has recently started testing One UI 9.0 on Geekbench with the Galaxy Z Flip7 as the target as of today. One UI 9.0 brings various new features and enhancements made to the UI to make your device easier to use while being more productive, and is expected to bring new AI features. The upcoming foldable series that will be released this year is expected to run One UI 9.0.

While the Galaxy Z Flip7 is waiting for One UI 8.5, Samsung has performed a benchmark on Geekbench for One UI 9.0 in the Galaxy Z Flip7. The locked USA variant with build number F766USQU9CZDF has been used in this benchmark, achieving 2275 points in single-core and 7843 points in multi-core scores.

Meanwhile, Android 17 has reached platform stability, which means that Samsung can now complete development in preparation for the beta program expected to start with the Galaxy S26 series in select countries like Korea, USA, Germany, and India.

Currently, we can’t make assumptions about the expected release date for the Galaxy S26 series, but One UI 9.0 will arrive with the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 8 series in the Galaxy Unpacked event expected on July 22nd.

The final benchmark results are not reflective of the final release of One UI 9.0, as optimizations will be done in subsequent beta versions.

  21. Google Play System Update (October 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

On October 28th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the October 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 49 MB.

If everything is well, you should see October 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the November patch of 2025!

  24. Tentative logo of Android 17 Cinnamon Bun spotted!

Today is the release day of the much anticipated Google Pixel 10 phone, a successor of Google Pixel 9 released last year. It powers a much powerful Google Tensor G5 (4nm process) system on a chip (SoC) that provides you with the powerful octa-core processor and a Mali-G715 MC7 GPU. It will be released with Android 16, and the next version, called Android 17 Cinnamon Bun, is going to be its first upgrade for the phone series.

We found a tentative image of what appears to be the Android 17 logo that is contained by the pentagon shape (five sides). As usual, it’s set in the space, but with a large dark green square in the middle of the logo that contains nine smaller squares, each colored by lighter green. The “17” appears below the bigger square. You can finally see the logo below.

Currently, we couldn’t find a higher quality image, due to being a preliminary image of Android 17 Cinnamon Bun logo. We’ll find out more about Android 17 in the coming months.

  25. Samsung stops the One UI leaks

As internal builds kept leaking to the public to let users know about what Samsung has done to One UI 8.0 in the smallest of the details, Samsung has become aware of the situation and has hardened their official OTA servers to prevent unauthorized access to the internal One UI builds for all devices, known as the “test builds.”

A user, Farlune, has discovered what was happening behind the scenes in the huge leak scene that happened even before Samsung has opened the beta program. Gerwin van Giessen from SammyGuru has reposted a report from Farlune that was sent to the official Samsung security team through the bug bounty program. Here’s the report:

Subject: Unauthorized Access and Decryption of Internal Samsunc OTA Test Builds

    Dear Samsung Security Team,

I would like to report a possible security and confidentiality breach involving the unauthorized access and distribution of internal OTA test builds.

A .cs (C#) source file is circulating which appears to interact directly with Samsung’s OTA servers. The file is capable of retrieving internal test firmware builds and uses a method compatible with tools like CheckFirm to decrypt metadata or access pre-release firmware, potentially bypassing standard access controls.

    The tool may be leveraging:

    • Internal URLs or endpoints related to FOTA (Firmware Over-The- Air) services.
    • Key decryption logic embedded in the .cs file
    • App signatures or tokens meant for internal use only.

This poses a significant risk as builds meant for internal testing are being accessed and shared publicly (e.g., on Telegram or forums). violating confidentiality and potentially exposing unpatched software.

If vou’d like, I can share more technical details or code excerpts privately, without disclosing anything publicly or violating terms.

Please let me know the best way to proceed securely.

Some other articles that talk about the same topic said that those who have installed the leaked internal builds can get updates to newer internal builds through the normal software update procedure.

Another SammyGuru writer, That Josh Guy, believed that this leaking scene happened at the time the community were being very desperate for the One UI 7 update that took a significant amount of time. One UI 8 was being tested on the Galaxy S25 at the time One UI 7 was yet to be released.

This kind of act, which is leaking internal One UI builds, violates the confidentiality, so Samsung’s response to the report is very good. This is because leaking confidential information from any company, such as the internal One UI build files, is illegal.

  26. Google Play System Update (July 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

On July 23rd, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the July 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 87 MB.

If everything is well, you should see July 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the August patch of 2025!
