  1. Google Play System Update (June 2026) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On June 30th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the June 1st, 2026 version. This update weighs around 70 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

    1. Go to your device’s settings
    2. Open the security settings
    3. Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
    4. If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:

Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see June 1st, 2026 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the July patch of 2026!

Samsung have revealed what vulnerabilities the June 2026 security patch has fixed earlier, as you can see here. This kind of update ensures that your phone, your tablet, and other devices become more secure as updates come along. Those updates are rolled out staggered, depending on your region and your device model. For instance, while the Galaxy S26 gets monthly updates, the Galaxy Tab S11 gets quarterly security updates.

Not long after the Galaxy S26 and the S25 FE received the security patch yesterday, the company continued the rollout to the Galaxy S25, Z Fold7, Z Flip7 FE, and TriFold phones as of today. However, some of these phones, specially the Galaxy S25, gets missing features, such as Notification Highlights on the Galaxy S25.

This security patch has a size of almost 898.24 MB, depending on the phone, and they bring the June 5th, 2026 security patch that you can see in the update info. This contains all fixes to vulnerabilities discovered since the last security patch released for these phones.

  31. Google Play System Update (May 2026) rolls out for Samsung devices

On June 3rd, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the May 1st, 2026 version. This update weighs around 98 MB.

If everything is well, you should see May 1st, 2026 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the June patch of 2026!

  33. One UI 8.5 support for our projects

Samsung has begun rolling out the One UI 8.5 update to Korea early this month and widened the rollout to many countries and models, starting from the Galaxy S25. This is a big moment for those who are owning the Galaxy S25 smartphone, but others will have to wait until it’s their turn.

We are currently planning the One UI 8.5 support for our projects, and our evaluations have concluded that One UI 8.5 is still suffering from the library dependency loading problem that One UI 6.1 broke when it comes to starting up PulseAudio with the below command:

     pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1

Nitrocid, Terminaux, BassBoom, and all other projects will be tested under this environment over the course of our official support duration. However, in One UI 8.5, PulseAudio needs to be loaded like this:

     LD_PRELOAD=/system/lib64/libskcodec.so pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1

As of today, we are excited to announce that One UI 8.5 is now fully supported for our projects starting May 28th! We are very thrilled to provide official support for those who are using our projects in One UI 8.5. We can now guarantee that our projects work under this version of One UI that was first unveiled to the Galaxy S26, the A37, and the A57 devices before the official rollout started.

     LD_PRELOAD=/system/lib64/libskcodec.so pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1

  41. More evidence of the Galaxy Tab S8’s One UI 8.5 firmware spotted!

The Galaxy Tab S8 was released with the Galaxy S22 series in the Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022 to give you a strong flagship tablet with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm) processor that was new at the time. Since then, successors like last year’s Galaxy Tab S11 beat the Galaxy Tab S8 by introducing new processors and new features, such as Now Brief found in Galaxy Tab S11. The Galaxy Tab S8 was already promised 4 generations of OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates.

One UI 8.0 upgrades the Galaxy Tab S8’s Android version for the fourth time, upgrading it to Android 16. Since then, Samsung was working on One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25, whose beta program officially closed in Korea last week. Many devices who were eligible for One UI 8.0 are supposed to receive the One UI 8.5 update, but factors may affect the eligibility.

The Galaxy Tab S8 has been spotted testing One UI 8.5 earlier as we’ve pointed out in an earlier article with build EYL1. However, we found a stronger proof that the Galaxy Tab S8 is really being considered for the One UI 8.5 update, because we’ve spotted a new build in the Korean version of the cellular version of the tablet.

This new build for the Korean model changes the firmware generation letter from J to K as seen in X806NKOSAJZB6, making the existence of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy Tab S8 more evident. The USA cellular model (SM-X808U) and the Chinese models (SM-X706C, SM-X806C, and SM-X906C) didn’t enter testing yet.

The following test builds have been spotted:

    • SM-X706N: X706NKOUAKZD1
    • SM-X806N: X806NKOUAKZD1
    • SM-X906N: X906NKOUAKZD1
    • SM-X706B: X706BXXUAEZD1
    • SM-X806B: X806BXXUAEZD1
    • SM-X906B: X906BXXUAEZD1
    • SM-X700: X700XXUAEZD1
    • SM-X800: X800XXUAEZD1
    • SM-X900: X900XXUAEZD1

Since we’re only at the start of the rollout of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25, we’ll have to wait for a few weeks until this version of One UI for the Galaxy Tab S8 gets released. So, if you are using this tablet series, know that you’ll be getting the update in the next coming weeks.

Similarly, the Galaxy S22 has also entered One UI 8.5 testing with build number S908NKSU8HZD1, and the May security update is also being worked on with build S908NKSS9GZE4. This means that a bootloader update is required before One UI 8.5 can install successfully. However, we haven’t seen a new security update for the Galaxy Tab S8 being worked on.

One UI 8.5 features a brand new design that will make your Galaxy device more attractive, along with introducing new features, such as Now Nudges. Older Galaxy devices may not get all features that made it to the Galaxy S26 series.

The Galaxy Tab S8 is going to get its last One UI upgrade in the middle of the rollout, and it will not longer get further One UI updates after that. If you still want Android 17 or beyond, you’ll have to purchase a new device to continue receiving Android updates.

  43. Our analysis of Samsung beta programs (One UI 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5)

Samsung opens beta programs for select Galaxy devices every time they plan to release a new version of One UI. Those beta programs exist to gather user’s feedback and bug reports to help improve the software, and new beta builds will be released to fix issues and add more features prior to the official release.

We have analyzed Samsung’s beta programs that were run recently, and the results are in. To summarize, One UI 8.5 has the longest beta program duration, while One UI 8.0 is the shortest, with One UI 7.0 in the middle, according to the start and the end dates of the program for the first device, inclusive. Please note that we have only taken the first device that joined the beta program, not the overall beta program duration that spans multiple devices, as the ending date reflects the official rollout start date.

    One UI 7.0

Anticipation started when One UI 7.0 got leaked to the public back in July 2024, and several appearances were made before the official beta program started. The Galaxy S24 was the first device to join the beta program on December 5th, 2024, and the stable version was released to the Galaxy S25 on January 2025. It was anticipated that February 2025 would be the release month, but that didn’t materialize until April 7th, 2025, when the beta program closed.

One UI 7.0 had a rough start when the release was made, because a serious bug caused Samsung to pull the update from the servers on April 12th. Then, five days later, One UI 7.0 was released again. We will still, however, use April 7th as the marker for the ending of the beta program, as well as the Korean region, for more accuracy.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S24 series:

    • Samsung Galaxy S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra
      • One UI 7 Beta 1 (build ZXKZ): December 5th, 2024 (articlerecruitment)
      • One UI 7 Beta 2 (build ZXL5): December 16th, 2024
      • One UI 7 Beta 3 (build ZXLJ): January 6th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 4 (build ZYBA): February 19th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 5 (build ZYC6): March 17th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 6 (build ZYCE): March 26th, 2025

The stable release happened after the sixth beta, with the stable release that followed it:

    • Samsung Galaxy S24
      • Build BYCG for KOO: April 7th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
      • Build BYCG for EUX: April 10th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
      • Build BYD9 for KOO: April 17th, 2025
      • Build BYD9 for EUX: April 23rd, 2025

Suppose that build ZXKZ was released on December 5th, 2024, for the beta program participants, and that BYCG was released on April 7th, 2025, to the public, we have calculated the date difference between those two dates, with April 7th being included.

Therefore, our analysis shows that 4 months, 3 days was the duration of the program for the Galaxy S24. Other devices’ beta programs are shorter, but they are irrelevant for this article. One third of a year with 3 more days were spent on adding features and making improvements.

The development history of One UI 7.0 is available by clicking on this link.

    One UI 8.0

Shortly after One UI 7.0 concluded its beta program and got expanded to more devices, One UI 8.0’s beta program started on May 28th, 2025, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant of the beta program. This also introduced a new way to enter the beta program, which simplified things a lot, compared to One UI 7.0 and earlier, because you just had to enter the beta program page and check to see if a beta program is available to you. The stable rollout started on September 15th, 2025.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25 series:

    • Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (S25 Edge excluded) [Beta shutdown September 15th, 2025]
      • One UI 8 Beta 1 (build ZYER): May 28th, 2025 (articlerecruitment)
      • One UI 8 Beta 2 (build ZYF3): June 12th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 3 (build ZYFA): June 30th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 4 (build ZYGB): July 30th, 2025 (announcement)
      • One UI 8 Beta 5 (build ZYH6): August 19th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 6 (build ZYHB): August 28th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 7 (build ZYI3): September 8th, 2025

The stable release happened after 7 beta versions, and the dates are:

    • Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (article)
      • KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
      • EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
    • Galaxy S25 Edge (article)
      • KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3)
      • EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3)

Suppose that build ZYER was released for the beta participants on May 28th, 2025, and that BYI3 was released on September 15th, 2025, for the Korean variant. We have calculated the difference between two dates, with the end date being included to make the length consistent.

Therefore, our analysis shows that 3 months, 19 days was the duration of the beta program for the Galaxy S25, which means a quarter of a year and two weeks with 5 more days of bug fixes and new features.

    One UI 8.5

Here’s when we’ve come to the present, with One UI 8.5 being released on May 6th, 2026, after the beta program was closed. On December 8th, 2025, One UI 8.5 beta was finally released, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant. It brought the new ambient design that revolutionizes the way you use your device.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25:

    • Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra [Beta shutdown May 6th, 2026]
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 1 (build ZYL8): December 8th, 2025 (article)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 2 (build ZYLH): December 22nd, 2025
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 3 (build ZZA3): January 5th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 4 (build ZZAL): February 9th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 5 (build ZZAN): February 19th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 6 (build ZZAO): February 26th, 2026 (after Galaxy S26 unveil)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 7 (build ZZC7): March 12th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 8 (build ZZCD): March 26th, 2026 (expansion article)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 9 (build ZZD5): April 9th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 10 (build ZZDD): April 20th, 2026

After ten beta versions of bug fixes and feature additions, as well as the AirDrop support on Quick Share for you to be able to share photos and other files to iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, the stable version of One UI 8.5 was released on May 6th, 2026 for the Korean variant, with the global rollout being expected this week, including Canada, USA, India, and Europe.

So, suppose that build ZYL8 was released on December 8th, 2025, for beta program participants, and build CZDP was released on May 6th, 2026 for Korean users. Therefore, we can conclude that the duration of the beta program was 4 months, 29 days, or a third of a year and four weeks with an extra day of bug fixes and feature additions.

Which beta program is the longest?

So, our analysis has covered One UI 7.0, 8.0, and this year’s 8.5, and the beta program durations for the first participating Galaxy flagship device are in! Let’s see which beta program is the longest in the ascending order.

    • One UI 8.0: 3 months, 19 days
    • One UI 7.0: 4 months, 3 days
    • One UI 8.5: 4 months, 29 days

We can now finally say that One UI 8.0 is the shortest of the three beta programs in duration, and that One UI 8.5 beats One UI 7.0, which was believed to be Samsung’s longest beta program.

One UI 8.5 is now available on Galaxy S25, S25 Edge, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z TriFold, S25 FE, and Z Flip7 FE, starting from Korea, with the expansion coming in the next few days or weeks, depending on the device model and the sales region. Samsung has also announced the beginning of the One UI 8.5 rollout in their newsroom, with more devices to get the update. You can see the changelogs of One UI 8.5 here.

To get the full experience, the Galaxy S26 provides more features, such as the 24MP camera and various new Galaxy AI features, than the Galaxy S25’s version of One UI 8.5, provided that certain features, like the 24MP camera, are exclusive to the Galaxy S26.

The Galaxy S24 was the first device to join the beta program on December 5th, 2024, and the stable version was released to the Galaxy S25 on January. It was anticipated that February would be the release month, but that didn’t materialize until April 7th, 2024, when the beta program closed.

Suppose that build ZXKZ was released on December 5th, 2024, for the beta program participants, and that BYD9 was released on April 17th, 2025, to the public, we have calculated the date difference between those two dates, with April 17th being included.

45. Samsung officially announces the rollout of One UI 8.5

The rollout of One UI 8.5 has started today with the Galaxy S25 getting the update first in Korea, with the Galaxy S25 Edge (previously Galaxy S25 Slim) and the Galaxy Z Fold7, Flip7, and TriFold series joining the One UI 8.5 update rollout in the home country in quick succession.

Now, Samsung Newsroom has officially published a micronews article that stated that Samsung has officially begun extending the One UI 8.5 rollout to more devices. They claimed that they’re expanding support for the latest Galaxy AI features, and that One UI 8.5 enhances communication and creative experiences.

The same article published an incomplete list of supported devices for One UI 8.5, including, but not limited to:

    • Slab flagship phones
      • Galaxy S25 series
      • Galaxy S25 FE
      • Galaxy S24 series
      • Galaxy S24 FE
    • Foldable phones
      • Galaxy Z Fold7
      • Galaxy Z Flip7
      • Galaxy Z Fold6
      • Galaxy Z Flip6
    • Flagship tablets
      • Galaxy Tab S11 series
      • Galaxy Tab S10 series

The same article declared that the official rollout would start, beginning May 6th in Korea, with more to follow. Previously, it was rumored that April 30th and May 4th would be the targets in Korea, but got postponed due to holidays, including Labor’s Day (May 1st) and Children’s Day (May 5th).

Samsung will publish a more complete list of Galaxy devices eligible for the One UI 8.5 update in Samsung Members > Notices, along with estimated dates in months, knowing that some of the older devices that got One UI 8.0, including the Galaxy M33 5G, aren’t eligible for One UI 8.5 due to their support ending.

Depending on the region and the model, you’ll have to wait longer. In this case, there is no exact date as to when the update will be released for each device in each region. The only answer is to be patient.

If you’re seeing “Your software is up to date,” this means that the update hasn’t reached your device yet. Keep checking for updates, as Samsung rolls it out gradually to all devices from country to country, usually starting from Korea.
