  1. Our analysis of Samsung beta programs (One UI 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5)

Samsung opens beta programs for select Galaxy devices every time they plan to release a new version of One UI. Those beta programs exist to gather user’s feedback and bug reports to help improve the software, and new beta builds will be released to fix issues and add more features prior to the official release.

We have analyzed Samsung’s beta programs that were run recently, and the results are in. To summarize, One UI 8.5 has the longest beta program duration, while One UI 8.0 is the shortest, with One UI 7.0 in the middle, according to the start and the end dates of the program for the first device, inclusive. Please note that we have only taken the first device that joined the beta program, not the overall beta program duration that spans multiple devices, as the ending date reflects the official rollout start date.

    One UI 7.0

Anticipation started when One UI 7.0 got leaked to the public back in July 2024, and several appearances were made before the official beta program started. The Galaxy S24 was the first device to join the beta program on December 5th, 2024, and the stable version was released to the Galaxy S25 on January 2025. It was anticipated that February 2025 would be the release month, but that didn’t materialize until April 7th, 2025, when the beta program closed.

One UI 7.0 had a rough start when the release was made, because a serious bug caused Samsung to pull the update from the servers on April 12th. Then, five days later, One UI 7.0 was released again. We will still, however, use April 7th as the marker for the ending of the beta program, as well as the Korean region, for more accuracy.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S24 series:

    • Samsung Galaxy S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra
      • One UI 7 Beta 1 (build ZXKZ): December 5th, 2024 (articlerecruitment)
      • One UI 7 Beta 2 (build ZXL5): December 16th, 2024
      • One UI 7 Beta 3 (build ZXLJ): January 6th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 4 (build ZYBA): February 19th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 5 (build ZYC6): March 17th, 2025
      • One UI 7 Beta 6 (build ZYCE): March 26th, 2025

The stable release happened after the sixth beta, with the stable release that followed it:

    • Samsung Galaxy S24
      • Build BYCG for KOO: April 7th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
      • Build BYCG for EUX: April 10th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
      • Build BYD9 for KOO: April 17th, 2025
      • Build BYD9 for EUX: April 23rd, 2025

Suppose that build ZXKZ was released on December 5th, 2024, for the beta program participants, and that BYCG was released on April 7th, 2025, to the public, we have calculated the date difference between those two dates, with April 7th being included.

Therefore, our analysis shows that 4 months, 3 days was the duration of the program for the Galaxy S24. Other devices’ beta programs are shorter, but they are irrelevant for this article. One third of a year with 3 more days were spent on adding features and making improvements.

The development history of One UI 7.0 is available by clicking on this link.

    One UI 8.0

Shortly after One UI 7.0 concluded its beta program and got expanded to more devices, One UI 8.0’s beta program started on May 28th, 2025, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant of the beta program. This also introduced a new way to enter the beta program, which simplified things a lot, compared to One UI 7.0 and earlier, because you just had to enter the beta program page and check to see if a beta program is available to you. The stable rollout started on September 15th, 2025.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25 series:

    • Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (S25 Edge excluded) [Beta shutdown September 15th, 2025]
      • One UI 8 Beta 1 (build ZYER): May 28th, 2025 (articlerecruitment)
      • One UI 8 Beta 2 (build ZYF3): June 12th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 3 (build ZYFA): June 30th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 4 (build ZYGB): July 30th, 2025 (announcement)
      • One UI 8 Beta 5 (build ZYH6): August 19th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 6 (build ZYHB): August 28th, 2025
      • One UI 8 Beta 7 (build ZYI3): September 8th, 2025

The stable release happened after 7 beta versions, and the dates are:

    • Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (article)
      • KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
      • EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
    • Galaxy S25 Edge (article)
      • KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3)
      • EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3)

Suppose that build ZYER was released for the beta participants on May 28th, 2025, and that BYI3 was released on September 15th, 2025, for the Korean variant. We have calculated the difference between two dates, with the end date being included to make the length consistent.

Therefore, our analysis shows that 3 months, 19 days was the duration of the beta program for the Galaxy S25, which means a quarter of a year and two weeks with 5 more days of bug fixes and new features.

    One UI 8.5

Here’s when we’ve come to the present, with One UI 8.5 being released on May 6th, 2026, after the beta program was closed. On December 8th, 2025, One UI 8.5 beta was finally released, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant. It brought the new ambient design that revolutionizes the way you use your device.

The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25:

    • Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra [Beta shutdown May 6th, 2026]
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 1 (build ZYL8): December 8th, 2025 (article)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 2 (build ZYLH): December 22nd, 2025
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 3 (build ZZA3): January 5th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 4 (build ZZAL): February 9th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 5 (build ZZAN): February 19th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 6 (build ZZAO): February 26th, 2026 (after Galaxy S26 unveil)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 7 (build ZZC7): March 12th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 8 (build ZZCD): March 26th, 2026 (expansion article)
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 9 (build ZZD5): April 9th, 2026
      • One UI 8.5 Beta 10 (build ZZDD): April 20th, 2026

After ten beta versions of bug fixes and feature additions, as well as the AirDrop support on Quick Share for you to be able to share photos and other files to iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, the stable version of One UI 8.5 was released on May 6th, 2026 for the Korean variant, with the global rollout being expected this week, including Canada, USA, India, and Europe.

So, suppose that build ZYL8 was released on December 8th, 2025, for beta program participants, and build CZDP was released on May 6th, 2026 for Korean users. Therefore, we can conclude that the duration of the beta program was 4 months, 29 days, or a third of a year and four weeks with an extra day of bug fixes and feature additions.

Which beta program is the longest?

So, our analysis has covered One UI 7.0, 8.0, and this year’s 8.5, and the beta program durations for the first participating Galaxy flagship device are in! Let’s see which beta program is the longest in the ascending order.

    • One UI 8.0: 3 months, 19 days
    • One UI 7.0: 4 months, 3 days
    • One UI 8.5: 4 months, 29 days

We can now finally say that One UI 8.0 is the shortest of the three beta programs in duration, and that One UI 8.5 beats One UI 7.0, which was believed to be Samsung’s longest beta program.

One UI 8.5 is now available on Galaxy S25, S25 Edge, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z TriFold, S25 FE, and Z Flip7 FE, starting from Korea, with the expansion coming in the next few days or weeks, depending on the device model and the sales region. Samsung has also announced the beginning of the One UI 8.5 rollout in their newsroom, with more devices to get the update. You can see the changelogs of One UI 8.5 here.

To get the full experience, the Galaxy S26 provides more features, such as the 24MP camera and various new Galaxy AI features, than the Galaxy S25’s version of One UI 8.5, provided that certain features, like the 24MP camera, are exclusive to the Galaxy S26.

  3. Google Play System Update (October 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On October 28th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the October 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 49 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

    1. Go to your device’s settings
    2. Open the security settings
    3. Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
    4. If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:

Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see October 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the November patch of 2025!

  4. Exclusive: Screen off animation broken after the September patch for the Galaxy Tab S8

Recently, Samsung has pushed the security patch for the Galaxy Tab S8 series that allowed the tablet to be updated to the September 2025 security patch (build DYI1), according to the quarterly security update schedule for the tablet. It is built on top of One UI 7 with Android 15 as the base system.

While evaluating the version, we’ve noticed an odd bug where the screen off animation wouldn’t play when either the screen turns off by itself or you turn it off by pressing the side button. This bug didn’t exist in the July security patch (build DYF4). However, it didn’t impact the functionality of the tablet; applications open very fast and everything works perfectly in One UI 7.

You can see the bug in action in a video we posted here:

    https://twitter.com/OfficialAptivi/status/1975608523569709539

As we are just a few days away from the rollout of the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Tab S8, we hope that this bug gets fixed in the update that is being worked on right now. According to Güncel Miyiz, the tablet should receive the update globally on the 16th of October, with the Korean release date being earlier according to recent rollout logs.

To obtain the update, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Settings app
    2. Navigate to Software update
    3. Tap on Download and Install
    4. You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
    5. Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.

This security update should take 5 to 10 minutes maximum to install once your phone reboots. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later. To mitigate green line issues caused by heat, do the update on a well-ventilated room.

  8. Gallery Assistant Showcase

This is an article meant to showcase the Gallery Assistant beta that was released for the Korean Galaxy devices before the APK was revealed to the public. Since then, we’ve managed to get our hands on the Gallery Assistant application that we will showcase.

You’ll have to turn off the Auto Blocker feature on your device before you’ll be able to install the APK to your device. Once done, you can turn the feature back on when needed. Please note that Gallery Assistant doesn’t support landscape display rotation yet on tablets, but you can open it in a pop up then add it to the multi window.

Gallery Assistant runs on One UI 6 and higher, and this means that you are required to have a phone or a tablet that’s running at least One UI 6 in order to be able to use this application.

When you open the landing page for the Gallery Assistant, this is what you first see:

    You’ll have the following options:

    • Reduce size
    • Rotate and flip
    • Image clipper
    • Add watermark
    • Compare images
    • Save as PDF
    • Print

Some of those features already exist in the built-in Gallery app, but the Gallery Assistant offers further options.

Of course, you’ll have to select images and/or videos before every operation, such as reducing the image/video size. You can do this by pressing the plus sign at the top of the screen.

Fitst, let’s introduce you to Reduce Size. It allows you to shrink selected images and videos in bulk. You can also select specific pictures to reduce their size, and you can adjust the slider up to ten levels:

Of course, the size that the slider tells you is estimated, and the actual size differs. When you save the picture, the size has been reduced as in below:

Let’s try again with the significant reduction in size, with the slider adjusted to 20%, which means 0.42 MB estimated.

You can notice that the resolution has dropped as part of the resize process. Not only that, but the sharpness of the image has been reduced. You can notice this by the texture of the hair. The original resolution of the picture was in 3456×2304 (2.1 MB), but it has been reduced to 3382×2255 (1.57 MB) and 1590×1060 (402 KB), respectively.

Here are the two comparisons where we showcase the detail loss:

Reduced to 1.57 MB Reduced to 402 KB

Second, the Rotate and Flip feature allows you to rotate and flip images in bulk. You can, for example, straighten, rotate and flip more than one image at once.

The Straighten button automatically detects the subject and tries to straighten the shot, if necessary.

The rotate and flip buttons are trigger switches, and the images that you select are affected when you save them.

Let’s compare the images, one by one:

    NormalRotatedFlippedFlipped and Rotated

As for the image clipper, the result is best when you choose a picture that has a clear subject, such as a picture of an object or a person.

In this case, the subject (an old vintage laptop running Windows 95) has been chosen here, and you can either copy the clipped image or save it. The result is:

Fourth, you can add a watermark to an image using either text or a smaller image, such as your name or your logo. You can also repeat the watermark across the whole image.

You can edit the watermark settings in the Info to show screen. You can select either an image or a text. You can customize the font, the color, the size, and the transparency if you want to show text. Else, you can resize the image and change its transparency to give it a more branded look.

In the Repeat screen, you can manipulate with the watermark by either letting it repeat across the whole image, or by adjusting its direction if it’s not repeated.

Once done, you can save the image as a copy or over the original. After that, you can see the new image with the watermark applied.

The fifth tool that Gallery Assistant provides is the Compare Images feature, where you can compare between two, three, or four images. To achieve the best results, you can choose pictures that look identical, but differ in small or large details, as long as both of them are the same subject.

Sixth, you can save images to a single PDF file.

In the hamburger menu, you can change the page size (A3, A4, or Letter), the layout (Portrait or Landscape), and the image quality (Original, Medium, or Low). You can either save the PDF or share it to someone. The only issue is that the banding in the original images that we’ve used is visible.

Finally, you can print the images. Not only that, but you can also print video thumbnails!

After that, the resultant PDF is saved at the folder that you choose.

Again, the banding issues are here.

While we are very excited to have this app handy, this version of the application has room for improvements. Once the global rollout of the final version starts, we’ll inform you.

  10. Google Play System Update (August 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

On September 10th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the August 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 88 MB.

If everything is well, you should see August 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the September patch of 2025!

  21. One UI 7 – Mini Timer for Clock

One UI 7 has been rolled out to many Samsung Galaxy devices, including the entry-level Galaxy A05s as the latest device that got this update across many regions. In the Clock application, you can enable the Mini Timer so that when you start the timer, you’ll get a small “pill” that shows you the time remaining for an alarm. You can enable this feature through the Clock app settings by tapping on the menu button > Settings > Show mini timer.

When you enable this setting, you can start a timer, as usual. For example, we have set a timer to run for two minutes, and we got the below screen as soon as we’ve started it.

Now, exit the Clock app, and you should get a small pill in your home screen, along with the live notification for the timer.

To get One UI 7, you can check for updates on your phone or tablet by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

  25. Galaxy A56 no longer boots after a major One UI update

Samsung has recently released a revised One UI 7 update to the Galaxy A56 that features the Side Button for launching your assistant, with Google Gemini being set as the default. It also brought many improvements to the operating system, ensuring that you have the best experience when using your Galaxy A56. The update contained the AYDK build that was first rolled out to Korea before expanding to other countries.

Users began reporting the issue where their Galaxy A56 device no longer worked after installing the update, because it would get stuck at the loading screen. This happens especially for European users. The update would install successfully, but the phone would fail to start with the gears loading screen looping forever. This is a serious issue for everyday users, especially when business and many important assets are involved, but doesn’t affect everyone.

However, there is a fix for anyone that got affected by this issue. You’ll need to eject the SIM card from your phone. After that, force restart the device by holding the side button and the volume down button together until the device turns off. Finally, let the device load to the home screen, and you can put your SIM card back in. If you’re still experiencing problems, you can either try to reflash your ROM or take your phone to the service center.
