  12. Google Play System Update (October 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On October 28th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the October 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 49 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

    1. Go to your device’s settings
    2. Open the security settings
    3. Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
    4. If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:

Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see October 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the November patch of 2025!

  15. Newline prezentuje serię DV One+. To gigantyczne ekrany LED z Androidem 13 i zdalnym zarządzaniem

Dedykowana platforma Newline Display Management Plus (NDM+) pozwala administratorom na zdalne monitorowanie, diagnozowanie i aktualizowanie wielu ekranów jednocześnie z jednego miejsca.

Do tworzenia i zarządzania treściami cyfrowymi służy dedykowana aplikacja Newline Signage Pro z intuicyjnym interfejsem typu „przeciągnij i upuść”.

  16. I managed to install #LineageOS on a #Fairphone4 today! I bought a phone from #Murena and then went from /e/OS to Fairphone stock Android 13 (for compatibility reasons) to LineageOS. #Verizon claims that the device is not supported, and they gave me the runaround when I tried to activate service on stock Android, even though everything just worked on /e/OS. They don't know what they're doing: Everything just works on LineageOS too.

Well, except the stuff that needs Google Play Integrity, since I'm not gonna try to spoof that. I was able to install the #Chargepoint app via #AuroraStore and log on, but it refuses to serve me. Not to worry, though, I have an RFID card coming in the mail for that.

With any luck this device will get me through the next few years.

  17. Samsung unexpectedly rolls out a security update for the Galaxy S20 devices

Samsung has unexpectedly rolled out a security update, through the Verizon network, to the Galaxy S20 series that was unveiled in 2020. The Galaxy S20 series has been considered as end of life as of this year, but it looks like that Verizon and the two other carriers in the USA have released a new update after the end of life date.

According to the firmware documentation, the security patch level still stays on March, which is outdated now. The security update improves your device’s security, but not with the Android security patch level, but on some of the components that the carriers use.

The following firmware information is available:

    • Galaxy S20 Ultra
      • SM-G988U: G988USQSDHYG2 [CCT, VZW, CHA]
    • Galaxy S20+
      • SM-G986U: G986USQSDHYG2 [CCT, VZW, CHA]
    • Galaxy S20
      • SM-G981V: G981VSQSDHYG2 [CCT]

In order to update your phone, follow these steps:

    1. Open Settings and navigate to Software update
    2. Tap Download and Install
    3. You should see the security update on your screen. Tap Download
    4. Let it download, then tap Install

Make sure that your phone is fully charged before you attempt to initiate the system update. You need to connect to your Wi-Fi network while downloading the update to reduce mobile data fees. Never interrupt the update in any way, or problems with the phone could occur.
