  1. Since Monday, the #PleiadesGazetteer editorial college has published 14 new and 118 updated place resources, reflecting the work of 10 people. The usual Monday blog post will summarize a full week's worth of such work, but meantime here's a #SneakPeek at one of the new additions. Authored by Jeffrey Becker, we now have a place resource for the Sanctuary of Palaimon (Palaimonium), a Roman sanctuary located at Isthmia and dedicated to an embodiment of the Isthmian games: pleiades.stoa.org/places/34339

In the attached map image, you can also see the remains of the Temple of Poseidon at Isthmia lying to the north of the Palaimonium. This larger temple has had its own Pleiades place resource (also authored by Jeffrey Becker) since 2019: pleiades.stoa.org/places/10752

  5. "Thus, in Hypatia, Synesius gives us a portrait of a philosopher who had ascended to the heights of mystical philosophy"

Interesting article - shows evidence #Hypatia of Alexandria also likely taught #polytheist /#pagan Theurgy and #philosophy as head of the #Platonic Academy in Alexandria through the letters of her student Synesius, a Bishop.

Wikipedia- “The chickens were kept in a cage under the care of the pullarius (keeper of the auspice chickens) who, when the time came, released the chickens and threw at them some form of bread or cake. If the chickens refused to come out or eat, or uttered a cry, or beat their wings, or flew away, the signs were unfavourable.”
