catching up on #BetterCallSaul , on DVD, and not only are there captions for everything and commentaries on most of the episodes, there are captions ON the commentary track. Meaning if you want, you can watch with the regular audio with commentary captions over top. Full #accessiblity ftw. Every #DVD set should be like this. #tv

When websites depend on users estimating remaining time before a session expires, they quietly exclude people — not just those with formal ADHD diagnoses, but anyone who experiences time differently or processes information at a different pace.

#Linux has to improve #accessiblity a lot. Consoles, installers, etc. must not be so small on bigger monitors to make it impossible for visually impaired humans to use them.

If you're not testing your UI for users who enlarge font sizes, your UI testing may as well be nonexistent.

[ scene ] it is movie night. a group of people have gathered to watch.
deaf/hh person: "can we please turn the captions on?"
person 1: "sure!"
person 2: "i guess that's fine."
person 3: [ loudly ] "no! I dont like them. they are annoying and distract from the movie."
deaf/hh: [ gets up & leaves after a while ]
person 3: "where are you going, the movie is just starting?"

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't like when someone in a video says an explicit word without being censored, but then the captions just delete that word. No placeholder, no special characters, just blank space. I am not deaf, but I believe anyone who benefits from CC deserves the right to swear words.

Okay @ubuntu i need more than one setting for the character size in your #Accessiblity options. Large and small is not enough. And large is not so big on an 11” screen. Just saying.

I'm trying to open a new gmail account for a student.
They ask for her phone number, and then I get a QR code that sends me to her messages app.
I send the confirmation message, but it is not received.I get a warning the google cannot send messages or call my number.
There are no alternatives to confirm her identity.
It is a regular cellphone number on a regular carrier.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
She is a blind 73 year old iPhone user. Don't mock her for needing google services.

Today's random throwback: in the 80's, the Polish TV broadcast programme which explained different scientific phenomena and technological advancements, often using imported TV material from abroad, e.g. the UK. Turns out there was an episode from the beginning of 1983 on blindness tech at the time. The whole thing is in Polish but contains sounds of the first electronic Braille typewriter manufactured in Poland, an experimental speech synthesizer, a system to read punchcards, a calculator beeping numbers in a Morse-like system and others. Would be fun to have an English translation and audiodescription for it some day. https://youtu.be/HQyFfMpWvRk #Blind #Accessiblity #Retro #Tech
