Hello Fediverse,
I announced my conference (https://social.anoxinon.de/@RoedigerRG/110157586653566017) a few months ago. Since this will take place soon, and I am a great FLOSS friend, I wondered how I can possibly stream presentations using FLOSS to comply with data protection. It should be associated with little effort. Does anyone have suggestions (#PeerTube, #Owncast …)?
BTW, we have some presentation slots available (#cancer, #bioinformatics, #aging, #neurodegenerative …)

My recommendation is to start with #LyXOnce you get an understanding for #LaTeX and depending on the OS it is good to have a decent LaTeX editor like #Kile or #TeXStudio (here is a list: https://www.guru99.com/best-latex-editors-window-mac.html)
Apart from that, have a look at #markdown. This might give you faster results at the beginning.

I have been using Firefox Translations (aka #bergamot) for some time. It enables client side (local, no web server) in-page translations. It is quite useful and the results are good. What is the experience among #fediverse users? #Argos translate (local) and #LibreTranslate (web) are subjectively better IMHO (not tested) but not well integrated in the browser.

Nur der Form halber. #KMail ist in #kontact integriert. Zusammen ist das ein sehr leistungsstarkes #PIM.Du kannst KMail also entweder alleine oder in Kombination mit Kontact nutzen.
Es ist vlt. einfacher zu sagen, was du damit machen möchtest und dann können wir dir gerne sagen, ob das geht.

I found it easier to get it working with the machine learning tools for image annotation and face tagging.
In case you try the appimage considered its 'installation' via https://github.com/mijorus/gearlever
#gearlever can help you to integrate the app into the menu, give execution permission, deletion and update.

@emitanaka @benmarwick That is a great tip! Just tried in #RKWard. I didn't notice the usage of #koRpus in #wordcountaddin. koRpus is developed by Meik Michalke, who is also a developer of RKWard. koRpus has quite a nice GUI support in RKWard. Great work!

Comes handy when imporving translations for #rstats and other tasks.

Starting with #RMarkdown is a great way to introduce students to the world of #rstats. It's not just about teaching programming skills, but also about explaining other technologies like #LaTeX, #YAML, #Rnw, #markdown & #Rscript! 💻 And I'm convinced that we should focus on building a small solid foundation (#smallR 🙂 ). Think of base R (aggregate, subset, …), #rdatatable and graphics (#tinyplot) instead of diving straight into popular packages like #tidyverse. Let's keep it simple! Who's with me?

@dansup This is a great attitude. Respect. It reminds me a little of #DeltaChat and #DeltaLab. Both use a common basis, but in some things the projects differ so that you can say, that DeltaLab is sometimes a bit more progressive. In any case, the developers are still working together and that is a good thing, especially for us open-source users.

The defense of a doctoral work is always something special. On the one hand, the graduates show what they have done, and on the other hand, a more or less large group of peers sees what is new in science.
The University of Maastricht is going one step further. They think big it seems.

Occasionally, I do some #ImageProcessing with #rstats. Packages I like to work with are #imager and #magick. The latter has even a relative with an interactive Tcl/Tk GUI that works nicely in #RKWard. Its name is #magickGUI.

@beps I truly understand what you mean. I am now talking a little about #RKWard. We have a solid integration of #git, #rio and some other tools. #quarto works. A tight integration of #styler would be nice. We have a good R console and a terminal. Likewise, we don't have the deep integration of #devtools, #roxygen2 and #pkgdown. Some find it good (I) others find it a hindrance.
In the end, there are many good choices. -
