  1. Hello Fediverse,

I announced my conference (social.anoxinon.de/@RoedigerRG) a few months ago. Since this will take place soon, and I am a great FLOSS friend, I wondered how I can possibly stream presentations using FLOSS to comply with data protection. It should be associated with little effort. Does anyone have suggestions (#PeerTube, #Owncast …)?

    #IBID2023 #IBID

    BTW, we have some presentation slots available (#cancer, #bioinformatics, #aging, #neurodegenerative …)

  4. I have been using Firefox Translations (aka ) for some time. It enables client side (local, no web server) in-page translations. It is quite useful and the results are good. What is the experience among users? translate (local) and (web) are subjectively better IMHO (not tested) but not well integrated in the browser.

Back in 2002/3 I was lost during the installation. We had Linux (Suse) the the Uni and Linux was what I wanted. Fortunately, a wise guy in the hall of recidence guided me. Only requirement Debian /w Gnome. Momorable quality time.

I sticked to Debian, albeit later with #Kanotix, #Sidux and #Siduction, #Kubuntu, #TUXEDOOS. All with KDE.

  15. Hi

Can anybody point me to good base R plot resources (templates, tutorials …) please?

    No , no

Something like and Zeileis & Murrell, "Coloring in R's Blind Spot", The R Journal, 2023 doi.org/10.32614/RJ-2023-071

  16. Starting with is a great way to introduce students to the world of . It's not just about teaching programming skills, but also about explaining other technologies like , , , & ! 💻 And I'm convinced that we should focus on building a small solid foundation ( 🙂 ). Think of base R (aggregate, subset, …), and graphics () instead of diving straight into popular packages like . Let's keep it simple! Who's with me?

  18. @dansup This is a great attitude. Respect. It reminds me a little of and . Both use a common basis, but in some things the projects differ so that you can say, that DeltaLab is sometimes a bit more progressive. In any case, the developers are still working together and that is a good thing, especially for us open-source users.

  19. The defense of a doctoral work is always something special. On the one hand, the graduates show what they have done, and on the other hand, a more or less large group of peers sees what is new in science.
The University of Maastricht is going one step further. They think big it seems.
This university streams the defense of their doctoral thesis.

  23. @beps I truly understand what you mean. I am now talking a little about #RKWard. We have a solid integration of #git, #rio and some other tools. #quarto works. A tight integration of #styler would be nice. We have a good R console and a terminal. Likewise, we don't have the deep integration of #devtools, #roxygen2 and #pkgdown. Some find it good (I) others find it a hindrance.
In the end, there are many good choices.
