  1. I've had FreeBSD 15.0 running on a laptop, now, for just over a month. FreeBSD is getting so good for daily use on a desktop that I am really close to making the move. And the work they are doing on the desktop is constantly improving.

  2. There's been a minor update to @Vivaldi released. Included is the fix for the broken app icon that I was mumbling about. I feel bad complaining about it because there was a forum post about the issue that I totally missed when I went looking.

    Thanks, @ruari!

  3. Midori web browser by @[email protected]. Now, there's a web browser I've not thought about for quite a while.  Installing it on my Debian machines to give it another try.

  4. I had completely forgotten about the Window Maker Live Linux distribution, currently based on Debian 13.3. Back in the day, Window Maker was, by far, my favorite. I think I'll download this latest release and give it a try. Honestly, technology just isn't as fun as it used to be. Maybe running this distro again will light a spark for me.

  5. So, the first of the year is coming up quickly. As many of you know, I've been unemployed from full-time employment for quite a long time. I've been working part-time jobs to make ends meet but I need to do more. I've decided to start doing some consulting.

I want to start offering a few services:

    1. Building websites for individuals, small businesses, or non-profits.
    2. Helping individuals, small businesses, non-profits with certain Information Technology needs. Mainly, Linux, Open Source Software, and networking.

I'm really hoping that this turns into something more than just small consulting work. I would love to start doing this full-time. At nearly 59, I don't see myself ever getting full-time employment any other way.

  6. Something very strange is happening. I'm not automatically receiving any new posts from folks that I follow. The only way to get new posts is to refresh the browser page. Anyone else on the #polymaths instance seeing this or is just me?

  7. I've been a Debian user for more than 20 years (a few others 10 years prior to that). I've always had Debian running on, at least, one piece of hardware. I will admit that I've had one of the "big 3's" distributions running on a separate piece of hardware at some point because I wanted to learn as much about those distributions as possible so I could apply for jobs with those companies. Now that I'm close to 60 years old, and it's quite obvious that I will never work for one of those companies, I have Debian running on everything. Debian just feels, and has always felt, like home. Last night, I rebuilt my home server that was running CentOS with Debian and all feels good again. Still have a bit of configuring to do but that won't take too awful long.

  8. In Ubuntu, again, Appimages are not launching. This time it's the 25.04 release and none of the fixes for previous releases are working. I've even checked AppArmor to ensure the Appimage in question isn't being blocked from running for some reason. Why does this issue continue in Ubuntu releases when so many have reported the issue? My son, just yesterday, got fed up with the issue and moved to openSUSE on his laptop and desktop. My neighbor, who I convinced to move to Linux just a year ago from Windows, is also looking to move to a different distribution or, sadly, even back to Windows. Is this simply Ubuntu making it difficult to run anything but Snaps? I'm sure this isn't the reason but I am sure that many are thinking this. There have been multiple users asking about this in the Ubuntu Discourse but the posts are being locked from zero activity. And please, I don't want to hear your thoughts on how bad Appimages are or something. Many people use them, myself included. I like them.

Ubuntu and Canonical, I love you, but you need to get it together. This is just ridiculous.

  9. Do not come to the US for any reason. But if you must, stay the hell away from Florida. The #shithole of the US.
