It's just so cool how easy it is to update #NextCloud Desktop (client) once you configure #gearlever the right way. I've been doing clunky manual updates until now. But clicking a button is a superior experience.

I wish there was an automatic way for GearLever to know the update source and method, so that also completely non-techy users could enjoy this. AppImages should ideally have that in their MetaData.

Man, that was cool. I finally learned to configure "Update management" in Gear Lever. To just press a button for the NextCloud Desktop updates.

It's a bit too fiddly still to let a "regular consumer"" or "your mom" type of user loose on it...

But hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

So, WinBoat (https://www.winboat.app/) AppImage genommen und mit Gear Lever (https://github.com/mijorus/gearlever) Updates managen lassen. FreeRDP3-Client ergänzt, alles andere sonst schon da.

Home Folder -Integration mal gelassen - hinterher geht das alles zu OneDrive :D

Kaffee machen und ne Stunde warten jetzt.

Me: 🤔 Too much space for such a simple app. Let's cancel.

Mint: 🤷‍♂️ No cancel button. 👍 Installation complete.

Me: 🤦‍♂️ Remove it!

Mint: 👍 Removed. 40MB reclaimed.

Me: 😨 Hey, where did the other 2.66 GB go?

Mint: 😅 I don't know what you are talking about.

Been using Linux for a while now and if you use AppImages #GearLever makes it so easy to manage them. But what I just learned is that you can also even use it to keep them updated. wonderful tool - https://flathub.org/apps/it.mijorus.gearlever (I installed it from Pop!Shop on PopOS)

For example, I use #siduction among other distros (pure Debian Sid). There, appimage and flatpak sometimes come handy for my usecase. In particular, they integrate quite well in #KDE.

AppImages are great: a single runtime containing all of the required dependencies for the app to run, in a double-click binary you can run from anywhere on your system. And therein lies the rub. When I download an AppImage for software like Audacity, Kdenlive, etc., it’s to a folder or my desktop. To run it, I have navigate to the folder and double-click on the binary as unless I manually choose to create a .desktop launcher it won’t appear in any app launcher/menu. Solutions exist, of course. In 2022 I featured a terrific tool to integrate AppImages with Ubuntu easily. :sys_more_orange:
