Dear friends, #screenreader users, #blind users and #accessibility professionals in particular.
Are you using chat over traditional email as provided by #DeltaChat / #DeltaLab / #ArcaneChat?
I like it uses traditional email infrastructure, is federated, supports end to end encryption, rich content including audio / voice messages. I have even recognized @adbenitez has implemented screen reader accessibility specific features into the android app.
However I have quickly tried electron based app on linux with orca screen reader, exchanged a few messages back and fort between two of my personal accounts using the DeltaChat app and thunderbird and I haven't found the user experience verry appealing. I can't understand how to effectivelly navigate in the list of conversations and list of messages.
Therefore I would be interested to hear a few comments from people knowing this platform better. How accessible is it on different platforms?
On the desktop is the electron based app a prefered choice?
Also some other questions. For the best experience, do I need a new email address or can I use my existing self-hosted one I have already configured in thunderbird?
Ffeel free to point me to a FAQ, some up to date introductory documentation if you think my questions don't make much sense please. -
ArcaneChat (previously known as #DeltaLab) an alternative Delta Chat client for #Android is now available in official F-Droid store!
If you already have it you can securely continue to upgrade it now from F-Droid (or #IzzyOnDroid) thanks to #ReproducibleBuilds which ensures the apk matches the source code and not me nor F-Droid is manipulating the binary 🎉

https://github.com/DeltaZen/I iterate over those areas and #CursedDelta doesn't have much priority since it has an small user base and I am not using it myself every day, also I would like a client as #emacs plugin or a native QT client, but if I see more people using it I might give it more love more often

@jonah there is no admin/roles functionality but is it necessary for small groups? Also, You might be interested in looking into https://chaos.social/@delta/112573959836159028 to have a team (community) account but for now only #deltalab on Android makes this convenient

News from our direct action R&D #deltalab : Addressable communities. End to end encrypted. No state on servers.
Attached: first a chat from deltafans with the hispanohablantes community ... where someone from the Spanish side invites deltafans folks to join it.
Second is the Spanish community chatlist where lots of chatting is going on ... Also includes the chat with the deltafans community.
Both are independently running and can adress/ be adressed with a messenger UX you already know.

If you are using #DeltaLab using the attachment button to attach a .webp image or .tgs file will send them as stickers
Alternatively to convert any normal image to sticker you could send it to one of the "stickers bots" available

@dansup This is a great attitude. Respect. It reminds me a little of #DeltaChat and #DeltaLab. Both use a common basis, but in some things the projects differ so that you can say, that DeltaLab is sometimes a bit more progressive. In any case, the developers are still working together and that is a good thing, especially for us open-source users.

clonar significa crear un nuevo grupo pero comenzando ya con los miembros del grupo anterior previamente seleccionados, así como la misma imagen y nombre del grupo, por supuesto en esa etapa de creación aún puedes descartar miembros no deseados, cambiar la imagen del grupo y nombre 💅

The alternative android client #deltalab already has markdown support, too. For the other platforms I think it will still take a while as markdown is currently not a focus point for us. (also there are still some open questions like do we want to send markdown out as html emails?) -
@robert_winkler @mondcivitano #DeltaChat es una gran herramienta. Una de las que uso a diario. Parece que tienen una comunidad hispanohablante bastante grande y un gran desarrollador (@adbenitez). Él desarrolla por así decirlo la próxima generación de DeltaChat. La herramienta se llama #DeltaLab (https://github.com/adbenitez/deltalab-android).

@devSJR just desktop for now and it's opt-in. #deltalab (alternative android app by @adbenitez) already has markdown since some time now. Desktop had it already some time ago (from 2019-06-09 until 2019-12-12) but it was removed again because it was buggy.
