  3. RE: mastodon.social/@kaiengert/116

I don't use Thunderbird, but #KMail (part of #KDE) and #K9Mail (on Android).

Will / do either of these implement draft-ietf-mailmaint-unobtrusive-signatures ?

If so, let me know how to opt-in.

If not, let me know how to fund an effort.

  5. I am a long-term #KDEPIM user and recently read that due to progress in #SQLite’s performance #Akonadi is now defaulting to that DB on a fresh install.

A few days ago I took the chance and ran `akonadi-db-migrator --newengine sqlite` and it was both painless and I definitely see both lower resource consumption and the PIM suite seems much snappier too!

  7. Since switching from #GNOME to #KDE months ago, I've been trying to switch also from @EvolutionGnome to Kontact, for better/nicer desktop integration, but, unfortunately, I need Exchange (for a work account), and I had to give up. After much struggle, I managed to configure it, but the problems (contacts, automatic synch, Akonadi) are constant. Evolution can be slow at times, but it doesn't let you down. So back home. At least until KDE's new #email client, Merkuro Mail, becomes usable.

  8. Does anyone know why KDE Linux does not offer KMail as an installable software in their software center? Is it perhaps not offered as a flatpack app but via some other package manager?

  10. I recently reinstalled #KDE #Plasma on my home desktop, but I've still got #xfce on my laptop. But I'm getting tempted to switch it to Plasma as well. I had it on there before, so I know it runs well.

I already use a mix of GTK and QT applications and lean more towards the QT programs. Hard to leave #Evolution mail for #KMail, but I can always just eat the space for the GTK dependencies.

  12. Still messing around with email clients (still worried @thunderbird will get infected by @mozilla's AI stupidity) and Kmail's got a serious deficiency.

By default it won't load remote content in email; that's good! When you turn it on for a message, it turns on for everything in the message; that's bad!

Ideally you'd get to choose what, so you can leave out all that tracking crap that infects everything.

    Maybe there's a plugin or something…

  15. Either I am going crazy, or akonadi_imap_resource on Debian 13 requires NetworkManager to be running, and if it is not running it crashes with "invalid nullptr parameter".

Because you know, that kind of hard dependency would make perfect sense, right?

  17. In running the live KDE Linux image (under qemu) I see that KMail and others aren't installed ('kmail' is not a valid command in the konsole, and 'kmail' doesn't shortlist any apps in the launcher), and doesn't seem to be available in the Discovery app. What am I missing?

  21. I've got a problem with #KDE #KMail 6.3.3 (24.12.3)

When I trash / send a message, KMail is putting it in the local folders instead of the IMAP folders.

I have already selected the right Sent/Drafts/Templates in the Advanced configuration for each of my 2 Identifies.

I have already selected the right Trash folder in the Advanced configuration for the Receiving (IMAP) Account.

    ---

I'm not sure if it is related, but another symptom I have is that when I right-click a message and highlight the "Move message to..." or "Copy message to..." items, instead of opening a submenu, the whole popup closes. Maybe folders are subtly broken in a weird way?

  23. Heute im #Linux Kino, wie ärgere ich Anwender.

    In

    discuss.kde.org/t/kmail-differ

(En Evolution es algo más sencillo, porque se pueden asignar colores directamente al crear los filtros, pero en KMail también se puede)

  26. @aks

I've wanted to love KMail for so many years, but every time I try it, it's just missing so much stuff that I use daily. Labels. Conversations view. Filters.

I'm curious how Merkuro (sp?) is going. It was a rather nice calendar app that apparently added email, so there's hope there.

For the moment though I'm stuck on Thunderbird even if it maddeningly and mystifyingly chooses to not let you use filters outside of the root email folder.

I can't believe that FOSS / Linux actually nailed video editing and gaming -two areas once thought impossible - before getting a decent email app.

I wonder whatever happened to KDE Raven?

  30. So, does anyone actually like KMail? I *want* to like it, but many of the UX choices leave me baffled. Is there some secret magic I'm missing? Is there a Linux mail client folks actually enjoy using?

  32. @ervin, I see you’ve been at #Akademy and held a #KDEPIM BoF.

There was a topic on how to gather more info from users.

As an avid user of #KMail, #KOrganizer and #Zanshin, I have (quite) some feedback and bug reports to provide. But whenever I try to, it seems to end up in the void.

I think a first step would be concentrate on the number of communication channels that devs can actually manage. For both their sanity and the users’.

  34. It's the small things that you notice.

In I've noticed that the patience solving engine in is a lot better. knows how to read the data from a file.

I know there are thousands and thousands of other changes, but it's odd what you notice.

The profile selector still doesn't work and refuses to start on the screen I want it to, but I can live with that.

  35. @aesthr FWIW #kmail lets you configure this. you can dectivate it or define after how many seconds a mail should be marked as read. kmail sure has its issues (one is called akonadi...) but i always loved it for its excellent out-of-the-box PGP support

  37. Back to using KMail for my email client. It's still going to be confusing to setup for folks new to it, but the overall email organization and presentation suits me better than Thunderbird. #email #KDE #KMail

  38. I really appreciate that #Kmail has an option that can convert HTML email into plain-text/ markdown because when you've got dark mode enabled across your OS email either blinds you (HTML Email) or you can't read anything (black text on a nearly black background).

Kmail seems to do it right, and I appreciate that.

  39. @cmccullough @markpitblado Aaaah... You've reminded me of those days. I've used Elm, Pine, Alpine and Mutt, but at some point I started using KMail.

Which was fine until quite recently, when its backend, akonadi started to act up, leading to me having to rebuild my setup three times now, from scratch.

And I need to zoom through hundreds of mails a day, so maybe... I'll try aerc, too!

  41. Kmail/KAddressBook can't connect to my Google account, and KAddressBook can't connect to my domain's DAV server. 🤷

Trying SeaMonkey next, although that's basically just Thunderbird/Firefox/more stuff in one blob.
