    I'd have to say "Clock Dance", by . Really, the same goes for any of her books. By the end of the book you've come to know and (at least) sympathize with the characters, and you're sad you'll never see them again.

  14. Yesterday I read "It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth" by Zoe . It's a terrific piece of autobiography. She never stops questioning her honesty and digging deep into her motives. I don't remember who said that autobiography is the highest form of fiction, but it's tempting to spin your life into a simple, satisfying story. I like that she works very hard to avoid that, and leaves in all the open-ended complications.

  15. I've been trying to understand TPM and all the baroque machinations necessary to securely boot a computer from an encrypted disk, and it made me think about how much time and effort we expend solely to protect ourselves from Bad People.

    Whole layers of complexity in software could be done away with, whole industries would become superfluous, if we could just trust each other.

    I know that's just the way things are, but it seems such a waste.
