  1. This *tiny* little Katydid literally jumped onto the back of my hand - just when I was trying to experiment with some extension tubes for #macro #photography ...
Handheld (one-handed) and natural lighting, so the results aren't great...
The tiny (2-3mm) Katydid *was* exquisitely beautiful, however.

  2. This is an audition tape from a Meadow Katydid nymph that heard @handmade_ghost’s “Pelican Orchestra” might need an interim conductor. Would very much like to be considered.

    *Volume up!

  3. Nympth of a Leaf Katydid, Phaneroptera brevis, spotted at Ulu Sembawang Park Connector, Singapore on 24 Nov 2024. It is on the petal of a Beggar's Tick (Bidens pilosa), about 2 cm in length.

  4. @Mendi_Tech @technocounselor Mine are as well. The ragweed is irritating my wee eyes but I'm enjoying the openness that comes with having windows open and of course the music of the #Katydids.

  5. Lots of nature happening in Austin this week! Found these katydids (Microcentrum sp.) hatching on a lacey oak.

High acoustic diversity and behavioral complexity of katydids in the #Mesozoic #soundscape pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2210

"#katydids are the earliest known #animals to have evolved complex acoustic communication, acoustic niche partitioning, and high-frequency musical calls."

An Eocene insect could hear conspecific ultrasounds and bat echolocation sciencedirect.com/science/arti

"Shortly before this #animal was fossilized, #bats had developed the ability to echolocate, which may have driven the #katydids to call at higher frequencies. At the same time, their ears were adapting to listen out for bats trying to hunt them down."

  8. Ahoy Pachyderm Pals, it’s summertime and the #KatyDids are singing, and the crepe Myrtle are blooming … sorry, #GeorgeGershwin

  9. Also saw a few Tettigoniids.
Tettigonia virdissima and a young unidentified one. I put it on #iNaturlist if you want to help!
