Zum Insektensamstag habe ich hier eine ziemlich seltene und stark gefährdete Schwebfliege aus dem Juni, die auch für mich ein persönlicher Erstnachweis war: Ein Weibchen von Ceriana conopsoides.

Schwebfliegen haben meist kurze Fühler mit immer nur drei Gliedern. Das ist total unpraktisch, wenn eine Wespe nachgeahmt werden soll, die lange, vielgliedrige Fühler hat. Aber die Natur findet für fast alles eine Lösung. Sind die Fühler zu kurz, entwickelt sich einfach ein Stirnfortsatz, auf dem die Fühler sitzen - und fertig ist die Wespen-Mimikry.

Der Ceriana hat es gefallen, sich auf meine Hose zu setzen, was mich vor ziemliche Probleme gestellt hat. Denn natürlich hatte ich das lange Tele auf der Kamera und es war unmöglich ein Foto zu machen.
Also hieß es, gaaanz vorsichtig zum Fahrrad zu schleichen und die Zweitkamera mit dem Macro aus der Tasche zu nehmen, ohne die Fliege aufzuschrecken. Die Fliege hat das zu meinem Glück ganz gechillt mitgemacht und so ist dieses Foto entstanden; nicht perfekt, aber immerhin ein sicherer Artnachweis.

I like the sleek colour pattern. It would not look out of place on a coverable sports car.

While the adult is sleek, the larva is a rat-tailed maggot with a long snorkle out its rear end that allows it to eat decomposing matter in stagnant water.

I saw this while on my weekly biodiversity run this afternoon through Ōtautahi-Christchurch city, NZ.
