Today's #Weretober is a peacock mantis shrimp - neither a shrimp, mantid, or peacock - but they can punch faster than you can blink, so it's probably better to respect their space.
Especially if they're were-crustacean sized.

Barnacle, hermit, barnacles. This hermit's a Hairy, serving both as barnacle transport and barnacle clean-up crew. Essential services.#VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit #Invertefest

In this together. Accidental triple exposure. Focusing through folded pages of a book, the camera caught the switch between screen saver photos. Hermit, tree, sky, marine life encyclopedia, tech; we sink or swim together. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit #Invertefest #AccidentalPhotography

Holms' hermit, on the job. When a barnacle dies, hermits quickly clean it out, removing the interior plates, scrubbing the walls, leaving the place ready for occupancy by other critters: anemones, worms, even fishes. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit #Invertefest

Living in a cave? Or is that a hungry fish? I keep coming back to this pic and wondering. What was she thinking? That shell is far too big for her! Or maybe not; she flips it over and walks away with it. She's stronger than she looks. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit #Invertefest

Black-eyed hermit, making a mess. He's in a tidy tank in a local aquarium; so neat and clean he is, but look at the snowstorm under his shell; he's stirring up the sand in search of edibles. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit #Invertefest

I thought this unique cyanotype which makes me think of rebirth was a fit for the last day of #InverteFest and New Year’s Eve. Made on watercolour paper (11” x 14”) with an image of pussy willow and wildflowers and an image of my linocut skeleton and collaged lino block printed moths and butterflies. 🧵1/2

The same species, hump-backed #beewolf (#Philanthus gibbosus) is common in my garden every summer, July through September. In some years, I've seen them as early as June, and as late as October. They visit a wide variety of flowers, preferring #Asteraceae and #Lamiaceae.#iNaturalist #InverteFest #InverteFest2022 #Insects #Hymenoptera #Wasps

Day 5: This little #jumpingspider enjoyed basking on a leaf, in the early sun rays, for several days. She seemed curiously chill and not afraid of me and my bulky lens; the fact this was a Diviner's Sage plant (#salviadivinorum) was probably a coincidence.
