More experiments with cyanotype & linocut insects for #invertefest! This one of a kind #cyanotype on water colour paper 11” x 14” has an image of the moon, cedar leaves, black eyed susans, & goldenrod embellished with my #linocut prints of pollinators. The insects are a yellow eastern swallowtail butterfly, a virgin tiger moth, an imperial moth, luna moth & white underwing. Last week of August is #Invertefest so it’s time to celebrate some invertebrates! My #cyanotype of lily of the valley flowers is embellished with my linocut moths: a hummingbird clearwing moth, Virgin tiger moth and a White underwing moth. These three moths are native here in Ontario.

Today's #Weretober is a peacock mantis shrimp - neither a shrimp, mantid, or peacock - but they can punch faster than you can blink, so it's probably better to respect their space.
Especially if they're were-crustacean sized.

Suddenly realized what the secondhand DSLR would be perfect for at my current beginner stage: the lakeshore thin-legged wolf spiders (_Pardosa lapidicina_)!
Though it is rather late in the season, I saw plenty of females with egg sacs running around—perhaps it's been warm long enough for them to have two litters? And I found one mother carrying babies. I also include photos of two colour variants, blue-grey and yellow-brown.
The mature males I've seen are all very dark, almost black. The largest females seem to be solid colours. I wonder if they change colour based on life stage?

The Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altimissa) is a deciduous tree native to NE China & Taiwan, which was foolishly brought to Europe & NA in the 1700s where it as become known as a noxious weed & invasive plant. 🧵1/n

The same species, hump-backed #beewolf (#Philanthus gibbosus) is common in my garden every summer, July through September. In some years, I've seen them as early as June, and as late as October.
