@residentCodeGuy you asked me recently what feature would be helpful for you to help me with #Koalagator calendar platform.
Well, I've got one that would massivley help. We have a browser extension (firefox/chrom) where you can visit an event ticketing site and click our browser button and it copies the event into the koalagator instance.
Fb have obstificated their webpage making it very hard to read, but we've now realised we could read the ical for the event that they provide.
Would love u to look at adding fb event support to our browser extension, its the most requested feature.

Tip: Install the excellent cli "web-ext" tool from firefox which will give you live code reloading while you muck around w the browser extension (https://github.com/mozilla/web-ext)

@codeDude yes I'd very much agree. The clean syntax and focus on the nicities of the programmers experience (eg,. syntactic sugar), makes it easier and more fun for beginners to get started.

@sxa I’ve been actively challenging people’s position on Bluesky. It’s a bait and switch. When asked to engage critically with the network the goodness of the whole thing quickly falls to bits.
Yeah I encourage you to respectfully challenge each interaction where folks are estolling the virtues of Bluesky. Mostly this venture funded corporation is just extracting its messaging from the good work of the fediverse.
I have lots of examples of big red flags with Bluesky if you need me to share any.

As we consider ways to implement #ActivityPub into our FOSS Community Calendar Ecosystem platform Koalagator, I've been looking over the differing specs for how to specify the event object schema.

First things First Manifesto (1964)
'Written in 1963 and published in 1964 by Ken Garland along with 20 other designers, photographers and students, the manifesto was a reaction to the staunch society of 1960s Britain and called for a return to a humanist aspect of design. It lashed out against the fast-paced and often trivial productions of mainstream advertising, calling them trivial and time-consuming. It's solution was to focus efforts of design on education and public service tasks that promoted the betterment of society.'
It matters as it gave designers permission to push back againt capitalist and materialism norms and to seek to do deeper important work as part of redefining what it meant to be a designer. Yeah not everyone got onboard, but it further a movement of designers critical of being tools of excesssive capitalist production. The poster also features a nice modernisit typographic design that remains easy to read and engage with

A friend of mine just encouraged me to make a submission to this upcoming Anthology on the theme of Neurodiversity and the More-Than-Human.
My research is looking at experimental new ways of collaborating that can help our communities to move beyond conflict and into collective decision making by reframing how we interact (it involves basic objects on a table that folkls push around like a board game but its not a board game its a new toolkit). {I'll explain it better another time 😋}

A FOSS self hosted community ecosystem calendar (like say one for the local indie band scene) seems like a natural fit for the fediverse.
I've been unpacking some ideas for how this might work in the discussions on the code repo.

@shauna I want an open hardware home health scanner, where it takes a scan of your eye, tongue and maybe you spit into a vial (and urinate?), and then it gives you a fast diagnostic on where your levels are low.
Your low on magnesium today, take 2 tablets and eat a handful of almonds.
No i dont want some corporation to develop this to advertise to me and sell my data to an authoritarian state.

@ryanleesipes can you raise a serious proposal with the board towards changing the legal name, even something simple like Thunderbird Technologies, like whatever.
Once Mozilla and Firefox were an asset to be associated with, I fear that Firefox and Mozilla are both very much tanking in 2025 with their decision to start selling out on user data.
I’ve always loved Firefox and been a strong advocate but the recent changes cut deep, we all know too well the odor that enshitification gives off when companies start to sell out on their users.
