Liberals won! So thankfully I don't have to give up on this shithole just yet, though we're a few seats short of a majority, so Canada remains on the country equivalent of academic probation in my book.
That being said, the GPPC (Garbage People's Party of Canada) barely registered at all with less than 1% of the popular vote, so that's definitely reason enough to celebrate.

Just had an interaction with a Youtube commenter who was criticizing someone's Audio Technica LP120 as if they got a Crosley or something, and this dude had the nerve—the gall... the GUMPTION—to preface his response with "Not being an elitist, but[…]" before recommending that I compare it alongside a Linn LP12, which, in case your feet are a little too close to the ground, currently retails for about $20,000.
Well I stand corrected. They're not an elitist, I just haven't had the opportunity to hear just how good a record can sound on a player that costs about as much as a small car. I bet you it's *almost* as good as a CD!

It''s always wild to me when I see regular everyday CRT TVs being sold for real actual money on Marketplace, with "TRINITRON" in all caps in the title. People are actually spending $100+ on the kinds of TVs that were in a large chunk of living rooms as recently as when the PS3 dropped.
I have to assume these are younger people getting into vintage gaming, reading online about how Trinitrons are the be-all-end-all of CRT TVs, but somebody really needs to tell them that these aren't the Kirby's Adventure of CRT technology; they were the best from the late 60s to the very end, and many are still kicking in basements and play rooms, ready to be given away for free to the first person who offers to carry them up the stairs.
If you are determining the value of an item from eBay listings, you are going to have a bad time. I promise you they made more than 12 copies of MUSHA back in the day. I'd be willing to bet they even mass produced them for a time.

So uh, what does it mean if I boot my Intel Macbook from USB and it gives me a light grey screen with an Apple logo (no ⊘ symbol, but also no loading bar or spinny animation). Do I assume that it's doing something? lol
Probably doesn't matter but it's an A1286 MBP 15" mid-2010.

Anyone have experience with Gateron switches, specifically in regards to longevity? I've had an Anne Pro 2 with Gateron Reds for the last ~2 years (bought it used, though it appeared to be very well cared for) and have had multiple occasions where I sit at my computer in the morning, and a new switch starts acting up (occasionally chattering, but more recently, requiring a lot of force to actuate). Last week, it was right shift, and today it's H. I usually just tap the shit out of it 'til it starts behaving again, but my previous keyboard, an iKBC Poker 2 with Cherry Reds, never had these kinds of issues, and I used and abused that thing non-stop for several years straight, and would still be using and abusing it if the micro-USB port didn't rip clean off the PCB along with all it's pads. I never had any kind of issues with actuation or chattering on that board.
I think it might be right about time that I give repairing my Poker 2 another go. I would replace it with another Poker 2 if I could find one with MX Reds for a reasonable price, but I mostly see them with MX Browns (blech).

3D printers are a great way to keep yourself busy when you don't feel like doing real work. As cool as DIY clicky probes like the Klackender look, I decided to just pick up a CR Touch and make it easy for myself, so I don't give myself yet another project to work on while I'm procrastinating.

Ontario folks! Help save the Ontario Science Centre!
Please take the time to send a message to the candidates expressing the role this will play in where you place your vote!
And please go out and vote, because a turn out like last time is exactly what emboldens spoiled rich kids like Ford to give our tax dollars to their rich friends' private hospitals, and to the construction of fancy spas nobody asked for.

It's kinda wild how relevant Ted Nelson's Computer Lib/Dream Machines still feels. I read a passage to my s/o and she replied "yeah people need to get off the internet," not knowing I was reading words written in 1974.
"Somehow the idea is abroad that computer activities are uncreative, as compared, say, with rotating clay against your fingers until it becomes a pot. This is categorically false. Computers involve imagination and creation at the highest level. Computers are an involvement you can really get into, regardless of your trip or your karma. They are toys, they are lools, they are glorious abstractions.
So it you like mental creation, toy trains, or abstractions, computers are for you. If you are interested in democracy and its future, you'd better understand computers. And It you are concerned about power and the way it is being used, and aren't we all right now, the same thing goes."
(Not the aforemention passage; just another one I liked)

Does anybody know of a modern browser that will run in a #libertine container on #UbuntuTouch? Ideally Firefox or a Firefox-derivative (Chromium if I have to, but Chrome is a no-go). I installed Firefox but it just gives me a black screen and an "X11 support" icon in the app menu.

This is probably the coolest #Lego build I've ever seen. They built a working #TuringMachine entirely out of Lego Technics!

#Roland P-6 update: threw some 808 and 909 samples on it. Live recording and step sequencing are simple enough. The fact that every pot is a pot and not an encoder is a bit frustrating. I mean, they can't all be encoders, but the sample editing knobs are frustrating af, because if I tweak the volume of my kick for example, then go to tweak the volume of the snare, the moment I touch it, the snare jumps from w/e volume it was at to the position of the knob.
